With the holidays approaching and the disaster in the northeast AND my personal desire to get my first paying client, I'm considering offering a holiday promotion along the lines of: Give a gift of family history and aid the Red Cross. You pay $XX/hour of research (X hours minimum) and I will donate 1/2 the proceeds to the Red Cross. I thought this might draw in some business among my friends and family, get me started as well as helping the Red Cross. I wonder, however, if there is an ethical problem here where I could be accused of using the disaster to bolster my business. Personally, I don't see it as much different from donating a gift certificate to a silent auction. Any thoughts on this? I suppose that would be another way to go - auction of a certificate rather than taking any portion of the money for myself... I would appreciate any advice here! I can't be the only one who has thought of this, right? Thanks,Alicia Watt
