Jeannette, Specific to your question about how to convert from your genealogy program (RootsMagic?) to WordPerfect, all you need to do is select the type of narrative report you wish (two types of Ancestor reports and five types of Descendant reports - one of which is NGSQ/modified register - are available), make sure you have the Indexes checked, then save as an RTF file.  You should then be able to open the file in WordPerfect, and make any changes you like. I'm not certain, as I prefer to write from scratch, but you should not have to recode everything for the indexes unless you make significant additions.
