I wanted to thank everyone who responded, both here on the list and privately, to my question about citations in the introduction of a biography I am writing about Lodewijk Wesselo. The general consensus was that these sentences did not need citations, because they were merely an introduction and the facts in them appear in greater detail with proper citations later on in the story.
