Hi, I have a Civil War service record that has a "Retired" card in it. I do not understand what the notation means on the "date" portion of the card. Maggie, You might be interested to know that NARA has a digitization project underway for RG109. Your Special Order should be in Chapter 1 (Adjutant and Inspector General's Office). Most likely in Vols 209-211 which covered SOs 1-310 dated 2 Jan 1864 to 31 Dec 1864.
