    3. Daniel -- As a followup to Elizabeth's question, it may also be possible to evaluate and compare the various data points you have. On the face of it, a census record (informant unknown), a death certificate (information NOT provided by the decedent), and a passport application (information probably provided by the person in question) do not necessarily have the same likelihood of accuracy. And they may be further evaluated by considering the quality of other verifiable information on the same document, any circumstances that might militate for or against accuracy, and several other issues laid out in Chapter 1 of _Evidence Explained_ under the heading "Textual Criticism."
