Lesley, No "gotchas" intended. The advantage of the BCG ACTION list (Aids to Certification Testing - Interactive Online Networking) is that you have the BCG trustees and outreach committee on the list to be able to point you to the directly pertinent parts of the Application Guide, Genealogy Standards, or Rubrics. Also the other "On the Clock" list members may contribute their experiences with your question. Here on TGF, in the ProGen Study group, and all our other learning venues don't have as much expertise in the application process. It is common for people to discuss their *understanding* of the rules which then each person internalizes according to their understanding. As in the game of "telephone" this can be far from the truth. I am at a conference and the internet in the convention hall won't let me look at the Application Guide at http://www.bcgcertification.org/catalog/appguide.html or else I would research this question for you. However, as Harold said, I have not heard this particular "rule" but don't trust our memories! Only the Application Guide is the rule-giver. Ask yourself also if it has to do with standards (no), or with the rubrics (don't think so). I think you are talking more about personal style than rules. Cafarelli Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2017 2:24 PM Harold, that may be something I picked up from a couple colleagues in ProGen. I don’t recall seeing it in the App Guide. I posted the question here because I figured that the response on the ACTION list would be to check the App Guide. Hmmm. You’re thinking, “Gotcha,” right? Lesley K. Am I correct in thinking that if I use my own or my husband's ancestors for any portfolio pieces and have a reason to mention myself (e.g., as oral interviewer for a source), I should do so only by name or third-person references and never first? Same for a journal article but not necessarily a newsletter article, right? Thanks for any advice you can offer. Lesley K. Cafarelli Minneapolis, MN, USA
