Fran, Have you looked for a will for the son John? It seems to me that John has died, or been disowned by his father Joseph. If John has died there should be a will or guardianship for his children. Do you know the mother of the children's name? I would look for anything on her to see if she married and look for that husband's will to see if he names her children. Is it possible John Powell was no longer living in Chester County? What were Rick Saunders suggestions? Remember that anytime you are researching in Chester County, you also need to look in New Castle County, Delaware and vice versa. There was lots of movement back and forth and even some houses dating from that time straddling the state line. Route 30 isn't that far away from Delaware.
