I visit my local Family History Center - the Premium sites there offer Fold3, NewpaperArchive, AncestryLibraryEdition, and a few other memberships at no cost if accessing them from the center. I've subscribed to GenealogyBank for about a year and I use it all the time. I find it easy to search for and view images and it has newspapers that I need. But, if my research focus changes to an area it doesn't cover, I'll move on. I've been trying to learn a little bit about my husband's Irish and English ancestors and a short-term subscription to The British Newspaper Archive paid for itself in the first few minutes of use a few weeks ago. I made a significant find there! I also bought a 1-day subscription to rootsireland.ie recently and that was helpful, too. I think for me the key is to subscribe when I need what a site has to offer, even if the short-term membership means paying a higher rate, so that I don't end up paying for something when I have no need for it.
