Since we can't see the will, there are different sources that may identify the children of his deceased son, depending on exactly what the bequest was. If they were to receive a child's share of a sale from personal property, then the loose estate papers may either show payments to them and/or of them signing receipts for having received their share of the estate. If they were to receive an equal share of proceeds from the sale of real estate the above may also apply. In the case of real estate, they may also be identified in a deed of the sale of the land. There could also be court cases ordering a sale of real estate, which again may name the children of a deceased heir.
