A friend worked for Union Pacific Railroad's Sun Valley, Idaho, ski resort in the late 1930s and early 1940s. She worked many more years in jobs covered under Social Security, but her ID # was not converted. Likewise another friend started working in the early 1950s for the Great Northern Railway in Seattle. On the other hand, my husband had a RR ID number and he is listed in the SSDI. I think it's more a matter of who is retired and whose death is reported, rather than whether it's a SS # or a RR #.
