    2. Fran West-Powe
    3. Hello All: Having been unable to figure out how to rid the Joseph POWEL will of the .docx sign, I remain unable to send; however, for the POWELL lady the will was proved 28 January, 1799 and found Chester Co., PA Archives. My hand-copied will is fairly short. Would it be permissable to just cut and paste it to this list? Thanks for all the time and help. 1. Re: [TGF] Need help with will stored on DropBox
    2. Since we can't see the will, there are different sources that may identify the children of his deceased son, depending on exactly what the bequest was. If they were to receive a child's share of a sale from personal property, then the loose estate papers may either show payments to them and/or of them signing receipts for having received their share of the estate. If they were to receive an equal share of proceeds from the sale of real estate the above may also apply. In the case of real estate, they may also be identified in a deed of the sale of the land. There could also be court cases ordering a sale of real estate, which again may name the children of a deceased heir. Don't miss this opportunity, with talks on: * Beginning Ukrainian Genealogy * Finding and Using Church Records from Your Ancestral Village * The Aliens are Coming: USCIS Record Sets * History of Lemkos, Boykos, and Hutsuls * Using Gazetteers, Directories, and Schematisms for Eastern European Research. SPEND THE DAY with 60+ fellow genealogists from California, Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Ukraine! SEVERAL NEW, VALUE-ADDED FEATURES: 1. It will now be much easier to network with other attendees who may share your ancestral villages and perhaps even your ancestors! For this first time, we will have a list for everyone with the name, contact information, and villages/surnames of interest for every attendee who chooses to participate! (This information will be collected on the registration form.) 2. For this first time, we will have an assortment of books available for purchase, including the Genealogical Gazetteer of Galicia by Brian Lenius, and several others! 3. In addition to the books, we will also have a vendor offering Ukrainian souvenirs for purchase. If you would like to obtain some knick-knacks or memorabilia to display your heritage at home, this is the place to do it! 4. Vera Miller, the host of the Find Your Lost Russian & Ukrainian Family blog and Facebook site, has graciously volunteered her time to help workshop attendees look-up contact information for current family on Eastern European Social Media sites! 5. Plans are in the works to set up an "on-your-own" tour of the local Ukrainian museum some time during the weekend. 1. [TGF] DAR
    2. Patricia Hobbs
    3. I thought I'd ask this here, but will also ask in the APG list if no one here knows. As background: I know that the DAR website allows downloading the lineage file for $10 and the supporting documents file for $20. This is the second time this has happened to me, so I'm wondering what the rule of thumb is about the supporting documents. I paid for and downloaded the supporting documents for an application that was not tied to any other application. In other words there was nothing to indicate that a short form was used or that in the portions of the lineages shown (so the more distant generations) that another application was being used as a shortcut. Therefore I would expect the supporting documents to include all the documents for all generations included in the application (although maybe they don't include the ones for living people). I am interested in a particular generation about three down from the patriot. The lineage shown on the website indicates that a death date and place are known for the particular person. I recently had worked on the genealogy of this line (it's a collateral for me, but a DNA match), and I had been unable to find the death date and place for this person. So that's what I was interested in. When I download the supporting documents, it included ONLY the supply tax and exoneration lists showing the patriot and his son which I presume was used to demonstrate financial support during the RW. No other documents were included. There is a will showing the son's relationship to the father, so these weren't needed for that purpose. I was disappointed that I had wasted my funds getting stuff I already had and it did not include what I specifically wanted. Did I go wrong somewhere in interpreting what should be included? How can I tell? It used to be that one could choose from several options for documents. You could get all the documents for a particular patriot and his descendants. You could pick just one lineage. And I don't remember what other options were. Patti ᐧ

    3. Hi Patti, The only way (that I know of) to find out what will be included in the supporting documents package is to ask a DAR member who has "image access" to check for you. Typically, this includes members who are chapter registrars and those with "volunteer genealogist" credentials. Otherwise, there is no way to know anything except the number of pages included. FWIW, when viewing the list of member applications, i.e., under the Ancestor Search tab, check to see if there is an "S" next to the name of the patriot's child. That means the application submitted was a "short form," and will only include the first 3 generations before linking to an existing "long form." Again, and DAR member with image access could view the application and refer you to the referenced long form so you don't waste your money. For example, I have 24 links between me and A. J. Jacobs, the Global Family Reunion guy. Three of those links are marriages. Link #8 crosses out of my blood relatives into another tree, and so on.
