    1. [TRANSCRIPTIONS-AUS] Cemeteries of SW Victoria - Portland BONUS
    2. Ian Marr
    3. As previously advised, we added the first, approximately 1000 names indexed from Warrnambool Lawn Cemetery to the Cemeteries site. Although we have not been able to spend any time at Portland recently, we had indexed a little over 700 names there - from the oldest sections. As we do not get the opportunity to travel around as much as we used to, the Portland index has, and will continue to, stagnate for some time. So we have added this index to the site as a second bonus. Simply go to the home page, as detailed below, and next to the 'Cemeteries of SW Victoria' link, you will see two "BONUS INDEXES" links - one for Warrnambool Lawn and the other for Portland. Bear in mind these are provided "outside" our normal indexing procedures, so are not integrated into the Global Surnames Index provided for the other Cemeteries. 1. [TRANSCRIPTIONS-AUS] Changes to Cemeteries of SW Victoria Information
    2. Ian Marr
    3. I have made a change to the Cemetery Stats page on the SW Victoria Cemeteries site. >From the main index, you can access statistical info about each Cemetery by clicking on the 'Cem STATS' link. I have now added the year of the earliest and most recent deaths recorded in the index for each Cemetery. This should give everyone a good "feel" for the date range covered by the headstone transcriptions included. Don't forget, also, that there is a bonus extra available from the home page - the first 1000 (well over 900) names transcribed from the Warrnambool Lawn section. 2. Ian Marr
    3. We are currently transcribing the newer and Lawn parts of the Warrnambool Cemetery. While the index is at a manageable size and won't take up too much server space on our web site, we wll upload the index on a "work in progress" basis. Note that it is exactly that - a 'work in progress'. Date calculations have not been done and it is not integrated into the Global Surnam index. It is stand-alone. Have completed a bit under 1000 names so far, so you may find some useful data in there. Go to our homesite (listed below) as usual, and click on the "Bonus" link beside the "Cemeteries of SW Victoria" link. Enjoy. 1. Status re Cemeteries of South West Victoria
    2. Ian
    3. As previously advised, I will be moving the above site to a new server and will be producing a CD containing all indexes, including the larger ones, like Warrnambool, Hamilton, Tower Hill, Terang, Cobden, etc. etc. The large Cemeteries will not be detailed on the web site, although all surnames included in them will be listed in the global index. I am moving slowly to achieve this, as I want to complete the transcription of Warrnambool & Hamilton Lawn before proceeding. This is taking longer than expected, but I am getting there - currently have close to 10,000 names indexed at Warrnambool and over 1,000 at Hamilton Lawn. The CD will also include many photos - currently standing at over 2,500 and growing as I get to different Cemeteries. Obviously not every headstone in every Cemetery can be included, but we will also be offering a photographic service for those we cannot include. I have managed to get an ABN so when the data is ready, I can complete the change - I would expect probably 3 months at most. Will keep everyone posted as we progess. Apart from the existing main page at http://members.datafast.net.au/~marrtronics/ we have a trial page at http://home.vicnet.net.au/~marr/ which shows 4 Cemetery indexes, including Hamilton 'Old' plus sample photos. 3. Hi, FamilyTrackers is looking for people to help index some images from the Oradea Jewish Cemetery in Oradea, Bihor, Romania. The publisher has uploaded the images and offered to share revenue with anyone who will create the indices for the images. There are also some projects in English. It requires someone who can read the names and dates from an image and enter it into an Excel file - then upload the file. When an item sells, payment is made to both publisher and indexer. Details at http://www.familytrackers.com/ where you can sign up for free and find available projects. If you are interested in doing something like this, let me know at Gene@FamilyTrackers.com and I'll help you get started and walk you through the process. Thanks. Gene

    1. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - Cemeteries of South West Victoria
    2. Ian Marr
    3. Hi all, I am facing the unpleasant prospect of having to move my Cemeteries of South-West Victoria site in the near future. I will maintain both the existing and new sites in parallel for the next couple of months, but then will be forced to cancel the old site. Ultimately, the new site will be much the same as it is now - EXCEPT that I will not have enough server space for the larger Cemeteries. Consequently, I will be moving to a CD based solution so that ALL indexes can be incorporated. The new address is: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~marr/ I have loaded four indexes on this site, in the format that they will appear on the CD - including photos. Due to space restrictions, there are not a great many photos on the above site, but on the CD there will be many thousands (e.g. at Panmure, Hawkesdale & Woolsthorpe I have photographed EVERY headstone). BONUS, BONUS, BONUS, BONUS The test site includes the new index for Hamilton (over 4,600 names). A FAVOUR PLEASE - could as many people as possible have a look at the new site and give me a critical (but constructive) analysis of it. Remember, however, that it is intended to be CD based, so will load MUCH faster from that medium. Follow the "Cemeteries of South West Victoria" link to get there. When e-mailing me with your comments, please use the e-mail links provided on most of the pages - and please DO NOT change the subject as I have my filters set-up to isolate them. I look forward to your feed-back.
