Based on this alone, I'm related only by marriage. Well, Y-DNA test matches came back with four Trahan hits. It was a Y-DNA12 test which I realize isn't going to provide the most definitive results, but with four out of 16 of my 'genetic distance 0' results coming back as Trahan, it's got me thinking. I've been banging my head for more than a year over the origin and parents of my paternal 4th great grandfather Samuel Evans (~1752-1825 VA). His estimated birth of 1752 is right before the Trahan families were shipped off to Virginia and while he spent his life in Virginia, I do not have any proof of birth location. Are there any known instances of families "westernizing" their names for protection or perhaps putting their children up for adoption by Virginian families? Thank you!
