My GGG Grandfather's name was James Fitzmarice Towell who immigrated from Ireland in the 1840's. He had two half-brothers who lived in New York at the time. According to my G Aunt, the Towells and the McFarlands moved to California during the civl war (I suspect to avoid the draft) and eventually, the two familys intermarried.
