His parents were Henry Charles Tomlin (son of William) and Ann Elizabeth Jones who were married May 17, 1857 in South Hackney, Middlesex. I located this family in the 1861 Peckham census, showing Henry Sr's age to be 25 and birthplace to be Alton, Hampshire. So, armed with the Alton, Hampshire birthplace of Henry Tomlin from the 1861 Peckham census, I located a baptism for a Henry Tomlin in Alton on July 6, 1834. Parents were William and Sarah. I located this family in the 1841 census for Alton. There is no William. But there is Sarah, 45, needlewoman; Maria, 15; George, 13; Charlotte, 9; and Henry, 7. I located a burial in Alton for a William Tomlin on Jan 24, 1841 at 67 years of age. This is probably our William who didn't hang around for the census taking. Other Tomlin children baptised in Alton to a William and Sarah are: Morrice Nov 10, 1813; Edward Dec 25, 1815; John Sept 13, 1818; Charles Henry June 2, 1820; James May 26, 1822; George May 28, 1828; Charlotte Nov 10, 1830; and our Henry July 6, 1834. I located a Maria Tomlin, dau of William and Sarah baptised Oct 16, 1825 in Hammersmith, London in the LDS IGI. She fits nicely into the time gap between James and George. I have not found a marriage for William and Sarah. Per the 1841 Alton census, Sarah was born in the county. I would love to hear from anyone researching this family.

Her name was Mary Elizabeth Tomlin. The only information I have on her is a marriage license dated April 13, 1876. On the marriage license it states her father as James C. Tomlin. Can not make out her mothers name, looks like it is A. Tomlin. They were living near Batesville Virginia. Mary Elizabeth Tomlin died around June 30, 1897, I believe that she was living around crozet when she died. It is said that she was Italian, don't know if that is correct. Would you have any information on this line of the Tomlin family? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Pat Brigman

I saw Hezekiah's family censused in 1860 Jasper County. It shows he and Elizabeth had 3 children, John H. age 5, James A age 3 and Sarah, less than a year. After Sarah was listed a Julian age 19 which I assume is a relative not a son. Now this would mean, James A was only 13 in 1876 which I believe you indicate John H was born. My ggrandfather was John Clark Tomlin. He & his mother were born in Georgia according to 1880 census record and his father in North Carolina (this could be a error). We heard a very interesting story back in the 40s about a Henry Tomlin and my grandmother said it was our grandfather's uncle. I have been in contact with a granddaughter of this Henry. He was born in 1855 in Georgia. On one of her messages she indicated his name was John Henry. You see I have difficulty knowing all the information on my Tomlin descendants. My grandfather, Roy Tomlin, died from burns due to an oil refinery explosion in 1920 when my father was only 13. I never knew him. His father died when he was a small boy in Alabama. His father and my ggrandmother Roxie Jackson Tomlin were censused in 1880 census of Montgomery County. My grandmother said she didn't know a lot about the Tomlins, only the Jacksons. However, it seems like she said that the father of John Clark Tomlin was killed in the civil war and some how or another the name Hezekiah is leaving a small thud in my mind. According to the census record John Clark was born about 1857or 1858. I cannot tell for sure when I look at the 1880 census whether he was 22 or 23. There was H W Tomlin in Morgan County in 1860 Census of Georgia who was in his 60s. This is a neighboring county of Jasper County. I have seen records stating he was Hezekiah W. Tomlin. I see on Georgia Gen.WEb, he married two women, both named Sarah.
