Hi, I cannot answer your question but am interested in the Tomlin McDowell connection. It seems I have heard the McDowell name connection with my Tomlin family but don't have it listed in my data so am wondering who your Tomlin's are. My 3rd. great grandfather was Wesley Tomlin from Tennessee and he had a son William P. who moved his family from Tennessee to Illinois and he had several Children. I am trying to find out their relationship. Both were murdered 4 Jan 1930 by Gladys' husband Burto (Bert) Watson, who then killed himself. Gladys was 35 at the time of her death which puts her birth at about 1895. Geta Sechrest's parents were John Sechrest and Cynthia King. No idea where Gladys Tomlin was born. Know she owned substantial property at the time of her death including Covington Taxicab Co. at W. 7th St., Covington, Kentucky and a restaurant (name unknown) at 13th & Banklick St., Covington, Kentucky. She adoped John S. Tomlin before she married Bert Watson. He was 6 at the time of the murders/suicide. Gladys Tomlin and Bert Watson were married 3 years. Bert had a brother named Alva Watson. Any information that can connect Gladys Tomlin to Geta Sechrest (married to Frank BOWMAN and later (Ed Schroeder) would be greatly appreciated.

As 1 of 200 marines assembled to hold a line of entrenchments in the rear of the fort which the enemy threatened to attack in force following a retreat in panic by more than two_thirds of the assaulting ground forces, Cpl. Tomlin took position in line and remained until morning when relief troops arrived from the fort. When one of his comrades was struck down by enemy fire, he unhesitatingly advanced under a withering fire of musketry into an open plain close to the fort and assisted the wounded man to a place of safety.

He lived in Ballard Co. or McCracken Co. KY until he married Lillie Mae Ford, she was born in 1914 in Ballard Co., KY. After they married Guy and Lillie moved to Detroit MI. They had two children: Mary Jean (Lily Tomlin) and Richard. Lillie Mae Ford Tomlin died in July 2004 in Nashville, TN. She is buried next to Guy in Paducah KY.
