Both of the families spell the name Tomlin but in Georgia it could have been spelled Tomblin or another spelling. Their father died while the boys were young, maybe in the Civil War and their mother remarried. I know so little about the Tomlin family in Georgia. However, I did find information on him through Ancestry. You may already have this. According to a family tree, he was convicted of raping a neighbor's wife and imprisoned. He maintained his innocence and even wrote a book about it while in prison (hey, makes me want to believe him). There is a Henry Tomlin listed in the 1900 census in the Rusk Wate Penitentiary, Cherokee Co., Texas. There is a Henry Tomlin, born abt. 1856, listed in Habersham, Georgia in the 1860 census. Parents are John A (age 24) and Lucinda (age 25). Siblings are Sarah A. F (6), Martha J. (3) Mary (2) and "Baby" (4 months). It's a place to start. You might also look under the names Harry and Tomblin, Tumlin, etc. Good luck! Phyllis Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We have him born Henry Tomlin in Georgia on 28 May 1855. He left home when he was in his early teens and came to Texas and died here on 05 March 1938. We belive he had family left in Georgia, parents, brothers and sisters. I don`t find him in a census until he is in Texas. I am hoping in your unpublished Tomlin book on the families of William Patrick Tomlin and his brothers Jason and Jonathan, that there was a Henry. Thank you for any help or a point in the right direction. Margie Allen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It would be helpful if people would view the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. It can be located by just putting in SMGF and doing a search. It is free and is taking information for both the Y and mitrochondrial DNA. It appears they will eventually use the autosomal DNA and if this is for more than checking ethnicity, the genealogy DNA databases will mushroom. I have tried for years to determine the parents of my great grandfather, John Clark(e) Tomlin. The 1880 census of Alabama shows he was born about 1857 in Georgia to a North Carolina born father and a Georgia born mother. have tried with no avail to link him to any of the Tomlins in the 1860 and 1870 censuses of Georgia or Alabama. He died when my grandfather, Roy Laitten Tomlin who was born June 29, 1881 in Montgomery County, Alabama was a small boy. My grandfather was the only son of John Clark(e)'s marriage to Roxie Catherine Jackson. My grandfather had one daughter that lived about a day and five sons. You would think there would be a lot of Y dna available but the sons had a tendency to have daugthers. There are two grandsons who I am trying to prevail on to get a kit and send it in. The two grandsons do not have any sons. Oral family history states John Clark(e) had a brother, Henry. I am in contact with a granddaughter of Henry and his marriage to her grandmother only produced daughters. She has also been unsuccessful at finding the parents of Henry. I am hoping that eventually there will be a match. The Y DNA is passed through the direct male line only. Males get mitrochondrial DNA from their mothers but they don't pass it on. Females get the mitrochodrial DNA and pass it on to their children, but it is their daughters and granddaughters than continue it. Again I never meant harm to anyone. Julia I would be more than happy to go back and correct any mistakes if I knoew what they were. If "WE" are not related then how do you know my genealogy is wrong? Nevermind I forgot that is top secret. This is the letter Julia sent me that got the response you read below. She made the inital contact with me and I quote "We are related I come from the daughter of Ollie". I have never mentioned your book online Julia and even if I had "What is the big deal if people know you are writing a book." This whole disagreement started when I thought Will P was married to Mary Henderson not Brannock. Julia last letter to me: You posted all over the internet about my book that only a handful of folk knew about from off line. Someone e-mail me personally and answered all my questions. I had just found a couple of hundred more names and family lines and put the book on hold so I could get it all put together. It was worth the wait. My book is a private publishing and every copy has be order a head of time. I plan to have complete control of who gets a copy and how the info is used. Thanks again so much for all your help, Julia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
