Hi. My husband has always been told that he was related to one of the Tolpuddle Martyrs --but we cannot find the connection. His father was Reginald Matthews (b.1905) He married Kathleen Watts His grandfather was Thomas Matthews,he married Elizabeth Loveless(b.9/4/1867) Her father was William Loveless( b.1829---parish clerk Leigh,dorset). He married Judith Jeans (b. 1827).The father of William was Joshua Loveless,(b.1791-d.1865.he was parish clerk 1841 census) He married Ann(b.1796-d.1852). If anyone could make a connection with a Tolpuddle Martyr ,that would be great! Ann Matthews.

Ann - have not been able to make a connection to the Tolpuddle Martyrs from your family tree. Do you have any documentation -ie marriage records or baptismal for instance. Do you know where Elizabeth Loveless was born? Her fahter William Loveless - where was he born? If he was the parish clerk for Leigh, Dorset perhaps he was born or at least raised in Leigh, Dorset. Perhaps with a more detailed history we will be able to track down the mystery.
