Hello, Tolpuddle Group.- Dont know if I belong here or not, since I have only been observing correspondence for a few days.( Are previous queries "ARCHIVED") I grew up in Yorkshire, of a father born in Southampton whose mother, Martha Hurst, was born in Osmington dorsets. according to 1881 census, yet I was told she came from Puddletown and even knew that the name was changed from Piddletown. Her parents were Robert Hurst, son of Henry Hurst, carpenter, and Mary Anne, dau. of Joseph Bishop.They married in Osmington, 29 May 1867. By 1891 census Mary Anne was obviously widowed, I found her married to a Mr Hooper. I may just belong in the Dorset group, but wanted to explore this Puddletown/Tolpuddle link, if such existed.
