    3. Good day all. The following is some information on the latest viruses that are making the rounds. Please ensure that you have a good Anti-Virus program on your computer. Palyh and SOBIG a/b/c variants which is the latest worm and received in the support@microsoft.com email which people are still opening. This worm fortunately does not have a dangerous payload - it basically creates 3 files and 2 reg entries; the JS/Seeker trojan which basically changes the start page of the Internet Browser and the JS/NoClose trojan which just transparently keeps a or some process running in the background that are harmless (browser). Both are obtained by a user visiting a web page with the java script coding for the trojan on it. the W97M/Chack this virus is a MS Word 97 macro virus and affects the global templates and others within the MS Word 97 software. the W95/CIH.1003a, which is a particularly nasty virus but fortunately, although it may infect in NT/2000K files, it will not activate (Win 98 and down) on our systems. This virus will not only "turf" the hard drive and then as a secondary effect actually attempt to cause permanent damage to the computer by attacking the flash bios and trying to destroy files there. For those that may not know, the BIOS is the part of your computer that initializes and manages the relationships and data flow between the system devices including the hard drive, serial and parallel ports, and the keyboard) and tries to corrupt the data stored there. VIRUS ALERT************************ The W32/BugBear has raised it's ugly head again. Please refer to this link http://www.symantec.ca/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bugbear.b@mm.html and ensure that you educate your users wrt to infection methods and key words to look for.

    3. Hi All And a huge welcome to Gary!!!!! I haven't received many funnies that I have thought were good enough for our list for quite some time. Today I received one that once again wasn't great BUT I did like the final "Thought for the day" and wanted to share it with you. It is a very good quote to remember as we all go through our busy lives. Hope you are all happy and health (especially Barb!!!) as we are all one this side of the world. Toodles Irene in OZ where we are freezing our buns off :-( Thought for the day: Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.
