    1. [TOL] Standfield Reunion

    3. Hi Everybody, I just want to give a brief summary of the Tolpuddle Martyrs Standfield Descendants Family Reunion. We all had a very enjoyable time. Fortunately, our cousins, Jan & Barry Stewart, who visited our rental facility last winter had suggested that we hold the event in the Watson Porter Pavilion at the Fanshawe Conservation Area in London. This buidling is an enclosed facility located on the top of a hill overlooking the man made, Fanshawe Lake. The weather was damp, cool and breezy, but this didn't stop the children from enjoying outdoor activites. Inside the pavilion was a large stone fireplace that was lit for the comfort of those seated on picnic benches in the enclosed room, eventually taking the dampness away and adding the pleasant fragrance of a wood burning fire. There were about 45 people that attended, including a young couple with their young family from Cleveland Ohio in the U.S. We arrived about 10 a.m. and I was able to arrange all the name tags on a table for the attenders as they arrived. On the wall above, I tacked a copy of Wesley Loveless Standfield's family (he was a son of John Standfield T.M.) and another photo of Charity Madeline Standfield ( d/o John Standfield T.M.) and James Cunningham, showing lines from each person in the photo to a color coded dot, that corresponded with a color coded dot on each person's name tag which indicated which line of descent each person was related to. I had also typed and mounted the 1770 Will of Robert Standfield, (Thomas Standfield T.M.'s grandfather) who married Katherine Jones and mounted it on bristol board as a document that may be of interest to some to read. (This will was copied from the Pidela written by Audrey Wirdnam on the account of the history of Tolpuddle.) My brother, Gary had produced an all inclusive family tree, which we have over 2000 names entered. The sheet of paper was over 10 feet in length and as deep as 3 feet in places. Gary also displayed a photo tree of ancestors that lived in Ontario. Several books we have relating to the Standfields were on display, and we had two laptop computers available with the Thomas Standfield descendant files for viewing. Geoff Anderson had donated a copy of his book to the Standfield Family that he graciously left at the motel to be delivered to my brother. Thank you Geoff for your kindness and for the information you have provided in your writings. We appreciate the hard work you have put into it. A London Free Press (local newspaper) reporter and photographer showed up at the beginning of the day and interviewed several early arrivals. They spent about an hour looking at our material, talking to people and shot a variety of photographs. They printed an article in Monday's paper entitled, "Martyrs Descendants Celebrate History" We were delighted to meet many new cousins for the first time. There were many favorable comments on the amount of historical information available on our family's history and the work we all put into assembling it. We took pictures of each person attending to add to our family file as well. It was about 6 p.m. when we left the Park, with promises that we will keep in touch with one another, now that we've put faces to all our names. Gayle
