Thanks for describing the Milton Abbas Fayre so well Sally, made me quite homesick!! I used to spend a lot of time in Dorset with my family as a child and would love to see some Morris Dancing in the summer sunshine, glass of warm beer in hand, swatting wasps and enjoying the pub revellers. And the Maypole too...we used to have maypole dancing in Lewes Sussex for the Spring and Summer solstices, thanks for all the info. but specially the memories! Hi All Would have loved to have attended the Tolpuddle festival this year, but alas it falls the same time as my daughter's birthday party (and school still not broken up then). Still keeping in the Tolpuddle area, does anyone have Pearse in their family tree from Southover, just down the road from Tolpuddle? I am working on this line in my family tree at the moment. Hello Donna Please send all your rain to OZ. Even though we are freezing we have had very little rain. Australia is in its worst drought in history. The weather experts tell us that the drought is over however our farmers tell us different. We are all on some type of water restrictions even in winter. Hi Carol I often wonder how you are getting on??? Carol lives at the top end of OZ and I am at the bottom of OZ. Best go to work. Hihohiho gee I hope it doesn't snow:-))) Irene ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna King" <deking@rogers.com> To: <TOLPUDDLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2003 5:57 AM Subject: Re: [TOL] Thought for the day was good!!!! > Irene - that was a very good quote. Hi All And a huge welcome to Gary!!!!! I haven't received many funnies that I have thought were good enough for our list for quite some time. Today I received one that once again wasn't great BUT I did like the final "Thought for the day" and wanted to share it with you. It is a very good quote to remember as we all go through our busy lives. Hope you are all happy and health (especially Barb!!!) as we are all one this side of the world. Toodles Irene in OZ where we are freezing our buns off :-( Thought for the day: Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.
Irene - that was a very good quote. It helps to keep things in prospective. Sorry you're freezing but we're not having all that great weather in Ontario. It's almost summer but all we get is rain, rain, rain. Gary - welcome to the Tolpuddle Mailing List. I know that you will find the people on this list to be friendly and very helpful. Please be advised that I do allow funnies as on this list we're not only fellow genealogists but are also friends and we help each other. I for one am interested in your possible connection to the Tolpuddle Martyrs as my 5 X great-grandfather John Loveless was also connected to the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Feel free to check our Webpage URL as listed below Once again Welcome to the List. Good day all. The following is some information on the latest viruses that are making the rounds. Please ensure that you have a good Anti-Virus program on your computer. Palyh and SOBIG a/b/c variants which is the latest worm and received in the support@microsoft.com email which people are still opening. This worm fortunately does not have a dangerous payload - it basically creates 3 files and 2 reg entries; the JS/Seeker trojan which basically changes the start page of the Internet Browser and the JS/NoClose trojan which just transparently keeps a or some process running in the background that are harmless (browser). Both are obtained by a user visiting a web page with the java script coding for the trojan on it. the W97M/Chack this virus is a MS Word 97 macro virus and affects the global templates and others within the MS Word 97 software. the W95/CIH.1003a, which is a particularly nasty virus but fortunately, although it may infect in NT/2000K files, it will not activate (Win 98 and down) on our systems. This virus will not only "turf" the hard drive and then as a secondary effect actually attempt to cause permanent damage to the computer by attacking the flash bios and trying to destroy files there. For those that may not know, the BIOS is the part of your computer that initializes and manages the relationships and data flow between the system devices including the hard drive, serial and parallel ports, and the keyboard) and tries to corrupt the data stored there. VIRUS ALERT************************ The W32/BugBear has raised it's ugly head again. Please refer to this link http://www.symantec.ca/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bugbear.b@mm.html and ensure that you educate your users wrt to infection methods and key words to look for.
I have just joined this group and thought it useful to introduce myself. My name is Gary Chaffey and I work at the local archives office in Yorkshire, England. I am picking up where my mother left off on the research of part of my family tree. My mother's maiden name was Loveless and it is this line, among others, I am interested in. My mothers father was Thomas Harry Loveless (b1912 at Lymington) who married Jessie Eugene Sarah Etheridge at St Andrews, Bournemouth in 1936. Thomas Harry Loveless was the son of Harry Loveless (b1886 at Dorchester) who married Florence Marsh at Boscombe in 1911. Harry Loveless was the son of Thomas Loveless(or lace) (bapt 1846 at Fordington) who married Elizabeth Pitfield at Fordington in 1875. Thomas Loveless was the son of Joseph and Jane Loveless(lace). I know that Joseph was directly related to the Tolpuddle Martyrs line but I am currently at work and cant remember the connection. Well thatÂ’s me in a nutshell any information/contacts would be greatly appreciated. Gary Chaffey __________________________________________________ Yahoo! Hello all. Thought this one was funny. Jacki you can use these for your newsletter. Donna King List Owner Tolpuddle/Cannell Mailing Lists deking@rogers.com LOVELESS/LOVELACE GENEALOGY PAGE - UNITED KINGDOM/CANADA/AUSTRALIA http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~martyrs We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors...but they all have to learn to live in the same box. CHILDREN & THE ELDERLY - While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, "The tooth fairy will never believe this!" CHILDREN & BURIAL - While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased. The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said: "Glory be unto the Faaaather, and unto the Sonnn ..... and into the hole he gooooes." CHILDREN & THE BIBLE - A little boy opened the big family bible.. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. "Mama, look what I found", the boy called out." What have you got there, dear?" With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear!"

Jacki - nice to hear from you. Have you had any trouble with tornados? Or was that more south. Don't forget that you have cousins on the Way side of the family and I would be interested in having any information on that branch of the family. Now, why wasn't I surprised when 'eye' got one of those e-mails!!? I think God just enjoys her humor, as do we all. The info that comes across the 'Tolpuddle' list is always read; sorry there's been a paucity of response from this Dakota branch. Working surely cuts into ones leisure time, doesn't it!!? Then there're always extraneous projects; most recently facilitating the Chamber Ensemble Tour of the National Symphony Orchestra's American Residency 2003 through North Dakota..we had a string quartet come through Williston May 2nd and 3rd and I somehow got to be the local contact. But I do get some family research done: One son lives in Fargo, and on the occasions when husband Jim has a psychology conference there, I spend time in the Clay County (MN) Hx Soc Archive and have followed the SHAVE/WAY lines (from Dorset 1873 & 1883) via the Yeovil Colonists to the Hawley, Minnesota, area, where they homesteaded. We're having a family reunion this summer in Colorado and I'm working on a book, tentatively called 'Bringing in the Shaves'....well, that's one working title!! Does anyone else get the S&DFHS "The Greenwood Tree?" Mother's Day has past, but I hope it's been a pleasant one to all concerned. Jacki (DENNIS/ASH/WAY/SHAVE) Keck in North Dakota
To all Tolpuddlians.....& specially for Irene - who always sends such good funnees.....! Cheers, Carol. an email from 'God' One day God was looking down at Earth and saw all of the rascally behaviour that was going on. He didn't like what he saw, so He called one of His angels, and sent the angel to Earth for a time, just to check things out. When the angel returned, she confirmed what God had seen, "Yes, it is bad on Earth no matter where one might go; 95% are misbehaving, and only 5% are not." God was not pleased. He pondered the situation for a while and then decided to E-mail the 5% that were good. He wanted to encourage them, give them some support, and knowing that with the popularity of computers on Earth word would soon get around that God had been in touch; and He wanted to give them a little something to help them keep going. Do you know what God's E-mail said? No? I didn't get one either
