    1. [TOL] Loveless of Tolpuddle
    2. Malcolm Tarrant
    3. Hi everyone, As I am new to the mailing list, I thought it proper that I introduce myself and announce my interest in the Loveless family and the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Well I'm Malcolm Tarrant living in Ipswich, Suffolk, England and I have started researching the claim that my grandmother was related to the Tolpuddle Martyrs. (I have heard this said since I was a lad!) It's early days in my research and I am currently verifying information that my maternal grandmother, Evelyn Ethel May Loveless (born 1906) married Cyril William Augustus Ford (1927) who I believe was the daughter of James Sansom Loveless and Ann Sarah Berrett living at 7 Portman Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth, England during the 1901 census. I also have a strong suspicion that this James Sansom Loveless is the child of Robert Loveless and Ester Sansom (Descendants of John Loveless - published on the internet by Donna King). A William Loveless married to Frances is also recorded as living at 7 Portman Road, I suspect that he is the brother of James Sansom Loveless who is shown as a child of Robert Loveless and Ester Sansom (Descendants of John Loveless - published on the internet by Donna King). The occupation of James and William Loveless is recorded as Carpenters in the 1901 census. In support of this my father talks of the Loveless family in Portland Road, Boscombe (which I suspect is Portman Road) and he also names Archie and Maud Loveless who appear as children of James Sansom Loveless in the 1901 census. He also tells me that Maud Loveless looked after my Mother(deceased) for a short period when she was a child. So I would welcome any help in my efforts to establish whether my grandmother is linked to the Loveless family of Tolpuddle and the Tolpuddle Martyrs and any help in verifying my suspicion that James Sansom Loveless is the son of Robert Loveless. Now it's time to go to bed (it's 2am here in the UK) so Goodnight or should it be Good Morning to you all!

    3. Hi Malcolm The children I have for Robert Loveless and Esther Samson (have seen her also as Ellen Samson) are Amelia Jane Bapt 15 Jan 1865 James Samson Loveless Bapt 12 Apr 1867 Tolpuddle Alice Laura Loveless I have two dates for Alice perhaps the first is her birth, perhaps one is wrong B 25 Jul 1869. & Bapt 15 Jan 1870 Francis Harold Bapt 17 Aug 1878 Tolpuddle William H Bapt 1877 I presume that all the children would have been baptised in Tolpuddle, I have record of the family living in Moreton Dorset in one of the census's, I think it is 1871, will check. Records of these baptisms are in the Tolpuddle Bishops Transcripts, in the records full names of the both parents are listed, Robert Loveless and Esther Samson, Robert's occupation is listed as a Mason.. Robert Loveless Bapt 3 Mar 1840 is the son of Edward Loveless and Ann Bartlett. As you know this is also Donna's family tree and Jackie Keck's (Hi girls!!) and if anyone else, sorry I forget. Edward is the son of William Loveless and Jane Hoare. William is the son of John Loveless and Judith Hibbs and this is your connection to the Tolpuddle Martyrs, John is the Uncle of George and James the TM's, he is the brother of Thomas Loveless TM Dad. Is that clear as mud or what:-))) Please correct me if I got that wrong girls, other than the dates, I ran it off my head. So Malcolm to be sure that your granny Evelyn Ethel May Loveless is the daughter of James Samson Loveless shouldn't be hard. You would get that from her birth certificate. I have not typed out the whole tree because as you said Donna has it on the net. I hope this is a help to you. 3. Hi Gayle and All!!! I am with you all in spirit:-))) Sadly work commitments have brought my genie research days nearly to a stop. Usually I only get to my computer on the weekends now but as I have Friday off I popped in tonight and found your nice message Gayle. I miss my research and chats with you all greatly. As each message comes along I long to dig out the books and have a peek if I have anything to help. I will try a little harder to check in more regularly. I do have a reply for Malcolm ( Welcome Malcolm!) but will do it in a separate email. Gayle at work they get heaps of funnies but a little risqué for the list I'm afraid Toodles all! 3. Hello Heather, I attempted unsuccessfully to email you directly in response to your posting and so am resonding directly to the list. Joseph Lenard Loveless was the son of James Wilson Loveless and Mary Polly Cronk. He was born in Prince Edward County, Ontario in 1842. He died in Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon on March 3, 1922. He first married Fanny Webb circa 1865 and his second wife was Viola A. Dickerson, whom he married on August 30, 1877 in Goodland, Lapeer County, Michigan. The Nathan that you mentioned in your email was his brother. Their father, James Wilson Loveless was born in Prince Edward County, Ontario in 1808 and was named after his mother's, sister's husband, James Wilson. James Wilson Loveless' parents were Absalom Loveless and Harriet Roblin. Absalom was born in NY State circa 1775 and died in 1812. Harriet was born in NJ on January 12 1782/83. She died Sept 22 1858. They were married in Prince Edward County in 1805. Their three known children were John, James Wilson and Crandall. After Absalom's death, Harriet married Jonathan Greeley. The Roblin family was one of the first to settle Prince Edward County. If you are not sure where that is it is the island right next to the northern shore of Lake Ontario and midway between Toronto and Kingston. I am descended from Absalom and Harriet's youngest son, Crandall Loveless I hope this info. helps, Susan Lovelace Orillia, Ontario ----- Original Message ----- From: "Heather Canevaro" <caro@sasktel.net> To: <TOLPUDDLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2004 10:07 PM Subject: [TOL] Canadian Loveless > Hello, > > I am a new member and am looking for any info available on a > Lenerd(Leonard) Loveless, b abt1844. 3. Hey Derek, Welcome to the Tolpuddle list. I am a descendant of the Standfield Tolpuddle Matryrs but have the connection with the Loveless line as Thomas Standfield TM married Dinniah Loveless sister of George Loveless TM. You mentioned that you have taken your Baker line back to 1686 and that you live in Dorset. There is an Elizabeth Baker in my family line which would have been my 4th great grandmother. Who was she married to? Robert Standfield, father of Thomas Standfield TM. The marriage date? June 19, 1787. Elizabeth was born in 1767 and died in 1854. Is this Baker related to your family tree? 3. Hello, I am a new member and am looking for any info available on a Lenerd(Leonard) Loveless, b abt1844. I found him and his wife Reta Dickerson living with a Nathan Loveless and wife Lucindie in Columbia, Brown Co. Dakota Territories, in the US 1880 census. Lenerd and Nathan both list their birth place and their parents birth place as Canada. I can't seem to find the connection to the ON or NS Lovelesses, but am presuming that this is where the family originated. Leonard may also be known as Joseph Leonard Loveless. 3. Derek - Yes, you're subscribed to the Tolpuddle Mailing List. The list, however, has been very quiet as of yet. This list is for the research of Loveless, Lovelace in Canada, England and Australia. Also research on the many names that have married into the Loveless line. Funnies are permitted on this list. I'm not familiar with a Bertha Ann Loveless but perhaps someone else on the list has some information on her. I would also like to welcome to the list - mtarrant@onetelnet.uk and caro@sasktel.net When you're comfortable please feel to post your research to the list. To post to the List - send an email to Tolpuddle-L@rootsweb.com To unsubscribe to the List - send an email to Tolpuddle-L-request@rootsweb.com placing the word - unsubscrbe only - in the body of the email. 3. Hello I don't think I'm already subscribed (blame age and infirmity) but am starting to research my Loveless (I am on that list) ancestors and am now particularly interested in seeing if we are tied into the Martyr line in any way. My Loveless cousins are divided on the subject of the martyrs, one thinks we are related, the other not. My starting point is: Bertha Ann Loveless b 1886 Shown on the 1901 census as living in Melbury Bubb and born in Leigh, Dorset I do not know who her parents were By the way, I live in Dorset and have taken my 'Baker' line back to 1686 so if anyone has any in their line I may be able to help. regards Derek

    1. [TOL] Lovelace and Lesses info from English Parish Records
    2. Howard Martin
    3. All I borrowed a CD today of English Parish Records for Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. It's not a comprehensive list but selected records of various parishes etc. I've extracted all the Lovelace and Loveless names and these are below if they are of any use to anyone. I have also put them into a Word document but cannot send this to the group. I anyone would prefer this sent individually, which will probably be easier to read than the below, then please let me know.
