    1. Fw: [TOL] MARCH 18, 1834 & more!
    2. Donna King
    3. Hello all. Lorraine Standfield has more information on the Tolpuddle Martyrs to share with us. Lorraine would also like to know if someone has a copy of George Loveless's writings on the Tolpuddle Martyrs. It is perhaps called "Victims of Whiggery" or "Tolpuddle: An account through the eyes of George Loveless" or even something quite different. Cheers, Donna > > > The Tolpuddle Martyrs Story > Also known as The Dorchester Labourers. > > Tolpuddle (also called Tolpuddell and Tolpiddle) is a village and parish on > the River Trent or Piddle; it is 7 miles north-east from Dorchester. 3. hi all my understanding was that Tolpuddle boys were expected to work for 6 shillings a week, and it was this that spurred it all on. In 1830 the labourer's wages were nine, then eight, and seven until 1834 the threat of six being introduced. Since 1824 unions alone were not illegal, but the Mutiny Act of 1797 forbad the taking of unlawful oaths, and this is where they were trapped. Cheers from sunny and warm (for once) West London, England. 3. Good day all. That time has come again when it is necessary to review the Researcher's Interests on the Tolpuddle website. Please check out our website at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~martyrs Please send me an email if you wish to have your research interests amended or deleted. Please send me an email if you wish to have your research interests added to the list. I have already checked out at least one email address and that email wasn't valid and that person is no longer subcribed to the list. I created the website but have said time and time again that it is a website for the list. I known some html for websites but what I know has been self taught. If there is anyone out there that has some ideas and our time to help design the website please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned. Take care, Donna King emily04@rogers.com

    3. Chris - Welcome to the Tolpuddle Mailing List. My name is Donna King and I'm the List Manager. The Tolpuddle List was originally created for the research of the LOVELESS/LOVELACE surname in Canada, England and Australia. It has since then evolved to include all the surnames that married into the LOVELESS/LOVELACE family and for the research of the Tolpuddle Matryrs. Funnies are allowed on this list. Check out our website at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~martyrs Please send me an email if you wish to have your research interests added to the list. Feel free to post your research interests to list as soon as you feel comfortable. I believe that you will find that the people on this list are very helpful and friendly. We all love a mystery, the harder the thread to untangle the better. 3. Hi all: I have been following this thread, but my William Henry LOVELESS married Mary Jane MAY, my great-aunt, in Portsea, which seems to have nothing to do with the Tolpuddle lot. If the tentative genealogy I have is correct, his father and grandfather were both named William and lived in the Portsea area, and this gives some plausibility to his grandson being William Henry V LOVELESS, there being five successive generations of William LOVELESS in the same family (who knows if they all had a middle name Henry?) Three of them certainly were William Henry. It's just that nobody seems to have connections to these folks, and if there is a Tolpuddle connection it has to be before the early nineteenth century. I hope _someone_ will be able to trace thier LOVELESS roots back to Hampshire, instead of Dorset! Regards Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA.

    3. Irene - I have just searched all the baptisms, burials, marriages etc that Jo researched for us a long time ago and no baptisms of children for Hannah and William Loveless. Of course these lists are primarily for parishes in and around Tolpuddle and dates mostly from 1838 - 1996. I will check my LDS CDs later today to see if I can find any births for Hannah and William perhaps in Hampshire. 3. Many congratulations - --- grandmere? - sounds so much nicer than grandma, granny or nanny. Beautiful names - especially the middle one. You must feel very happy and proud of yourself - and I am very jealous. Enjoy that baby - as all us 'old' mums know, they grow up so qu..........yes. 3. Sally - Frederick Loveless descends from Stephen Lovelesse's Uncle William. born 1751 Tolpuddle, Dorset. William's brother John born 1783 was Stephen's father. Frederick Loveless born 1880 Manchester, Lancaster parents are: Thomas and Alison Loveless. Thomas born 1854 Tolpuddle, Dorset and Alison born 1853 Stilton, Cheshire. Thomas Loveless's parents are the same as for my Kate Loveless - William and Ellen. William born 1831 Tolpuddle and Ellen (COSH/CORISH) born Blandford, Dorset. Let me know if you want a copy of the family tree. I warn you now, that I have lost some of the details I had inputted and am in process of restoring my files. I'm not sure about Francis. I don't have a Francis born circa 1890. Will check further.
