    2. Brian and Carol
    3. Hi Barbara, keeping my fingers crossed that you and Irene can cross-match. She has done so much work for me and many other Loveless/laces and had little luck herself with her family search. My oldest ancestor, my g.g.g. granddad was Henry Loveless born circa 1805 in Axmouth - on the Dorset/Devon border. We believe that he was a rope maker/flax dresser working in Bridport and possibly had a connection with Donna's relations who were also connected with flax dressers in Bridport. He and his family moved on to Kent around 1834 and may have changed their name to Lovelace temporarily, they lived in Folkestone, then Dover, then Peckham and South London where I was born a Loveless. I am told by aged aunt that we are related to Tolpuddle martyrs - but have yet to trace any Henrys in the info. about the family! We emigrated in 1992 after my wanting to come over here almost since I could open an atlas! Just love that huge sky......do wish you well with your hunting and I'll keep ears open for Bristol/Somerset links. Carol l/Somerset links. Carol

    3. Hi Barbara. Greetings from Canada. I'm researching the family of John Loveless - uncle to George and James Loveless - Tolpuddle Martyrs. Most of my Lovelesses hail from Tolpuddle, Dorset, England. I haven't determined as of yet if any of my great-grandmothers 13 siblings came to Canada like some of the other Lovelesses. Glad you could join our group. If you have any suggestions on how we could get more activity on the list don't hesitate to let us know. 3. Hi everyone, While you are looking up all your data for any Lovelace/Loveless people, please remember me. I also would like any that are found. Here is a rundown on the family I am researching. The Banns of marriage for Benjamin Lovelace to Frances Matthews were called in St Cuthbert's, Wells, Somerset, on 27 May, 3 & 10 June 1792. Marriage was 17th July, 1792. Issue: 1793 Benjamin, b 12 April, bap 17 May 1795 Anne, b 9 Sept, bap 18 Oct (thought to have been bur. 12 June 1808 1800 Fanny, b 8 Nov, bap 31 Dec Married John Wright 1803 Mary b 24 Dec 1802 Bap 11 April 1803 did not marry 1805 Charles b 2 Feb 1805, bap 19 Feb 1805 married Hester Parsons came to AUSTRALIA) 1806 William, b 20 Nov, bap 19 December 1810 Eliza Matthews b 18 July bap 9 Sept married John Collens ( Came to AUSTRALIA) Benjamin MAY have been the son of Robert and Sarah who lived in Chamberlain St., Wells as this is where Banjamin also lived there after 1802 Robert & sarah's issue found 1764 Jane, dau of Mr Robert LOVELESS, b 9 Feb bapt 19 Feb brought into church 16 Apr 1766 Robert, son of Robert & Sara LOVELESS b 30 April bapt 1 May brought into church 19 Sept 1768 John, son of Robert & Sarah LOVELASE b 6 Feb bapt 7 Feb brought into church 29 April William son of Robert & Sarah LOVELESS b 20 May bapt 30 May brought into church 27 Aug 1773 Hester dau of Mr Robert LOVELESS and Sarah b 22 Dec 1772 bapt 24 Dec into church 4 Jun 1773. John b 1768 is thought to be our John ( Benjamin) as dates are OK as Benjamin died18 JULY 1843, Aged 75. The names Benjamin John and John Benjamin are carried down through generations indeed there is still Benjamin John Lovelace living today. I notice there is data on a Benjamin John Lovelace who married Sarah Rebecca Hawkins in London. This Benjamin was b 1824, son of John Lovelace born London. This family has names very similar to our family. It is possible that as the father was called Benjamin the son would take the second name as his own first name ie John Benjamin = Benjamin John. Would love to have an data on this family. Can anyone tell where to research apprenticeship papers as our family were Tailors and therefore had to be apprenticed. I do know both Charles and William were apprenticed to their father Benjamin John Lovelace in Wells. Charles LOVELACE's full name was Charles Fletcher Lovelace. I do hope that someone else may be able to connect with this family Regards Barb Lewis -----Original Message----- From: Irene Howgate <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, 8 July 1999 8:54 AM Subject: [TOLPUDDLE-L] IRENE BEGGING!!!!!! >Morning all! >Carol, Donna, Barb!!!!!! >I spent yesterday in my favorite place Melbourne Library and found a few >possibilities for my Robert's family. >Thanks to Barb I have a lovely lady looking into my family. >This women only researchers Somerset and Bristol and guess where she lives, >BALLARAT with me. 3. Hi Brian and Carol Yes it is an Aussie email. I am tracing the Lovelace family of Charles Fletcher Lovelace and his wife Hester Parson, orginally from Wells, Somerset. I am in touch with Irene Howgate and we are exchanging what info we can as some of her family and some of Charles sister Eliza matthew Lovelace ( husband John Collen) family also lived at Castlemaine. Her Robert came from Bristol and Eliza married her John there. It will be interesting to see if anything come of it. Please tell about your family- where in Eng you came from. I do know of James and George Loveless the Tolpuddle Martyrs, but they went back to Eng, on to Essex and then part of the family went overseas. Love to know anything you can tell me. I have been researching for about 25 + years. I live in a little place called Culgoa, 75k west from Swan Hill. My first married name was Lovelace and that is my childrens name. The Tolpuddle List was created primarily for the research of the Loveless/Lovelace surname other than in the United States. It was given the name of Tolpuddle in reference to the Tolpuddle Martyrs for want of a better name. This list is quiet list but very friendly and many different topics are regularly discussed. 3. Geoff. Thanks for your response. This list was intended at first for Loveless/Lovelace research that wasn't originated in the States. This was so that we wouldn't have to sift through many postings that weren't relevant. Other than that, I don't see this list as being totally specific to one cause. Anything that touches on Loveless/Lovelace research whether it be the TMs or any of the names connected with Loveless is okay. This list isn't formal and what I would like to see is research being done on some aspect of Loveless/Lovelace. I would be happy just to see some research or discussions going on. I took over from Wendy Miller as List Manager and have since felt that perhaps that either people are very quiet or maybe this list isn't doing what is supposed to do. I have just started a database on the Loveless/Lovelace and will let you know when I have a good number of entries entered. I'm including the 1881 British census and the IGI. Hope this answers your questions Geoff. At some further date I might be interested in your Ontario research. I would like to know if some of my great-grandmother's 13 brothers and sisters migrated to Canada. Do you have any records of entry into Canada for Loveless? 1. Re: [TOLPUDDLE-L] Loveless-passenger lists to North America
    2. Geoff
    3. Hi Donna, I know of no research on passengers lists etc relating to immigration to North America for the Tolpuddle Martyr crowd. There are anecdotal stories of how and when they came. I would be really interested in seeing, for instance, who all came with George Loveless, and when they exactly came. I believe it was 1844 and the party included his brother James, and the two Brine brothers, James and Joseph. There may be others however, eg brothers and collateral families. We know that George's daughter Sina died at sea. We read that they came through New York to Hamilton, and that the family stayed in Hamilton while George and the eldest son struck out for London. James and Joseph had lived with the Lovelesses in New House Farm, Greensted, but in Canada the Brines initially went north to Huron County. When did the other Loveless brothers come, Robert, and John? You would know that John started out in London and then went to Ohio. Robert stayed in the London area. In the case of the Standfields, it seems that they came in 1846, apparently via Port Stanley. Thomas had 2 grown daughters. Did they come or stay? There are also a bunch of collateral families: eg, spracklen, crabb, cooper, callendar. When did these come? Any discussion on this subject is most welcome! Geoff
