    3. You are a blossom!! Yes i had just tracked Thomas Loveless married to Betty...but no more. Strange how these surnames keep changing spelling! I take back all I have said about Loveless having no connection to Lovelace..! (Must be my illiterate ancestors...........) Won't keep you Irene, thanks so much! Have a good night. 3. Hi Carol. Edward and Ann (nee Bartlett) Loveless's oldest child and daughter was Elizabeth and she married George Moors Legg according to what I have. I have the same birth dates for Elizabeth but have 1879 for date of death. The only child for them I have is Martha Jane. Elizabeth would of been my 2 X great aunt I believe. She was the older sister of my 2 X great grandfather William Loveless. Hope this helps. Irene and I deduced that the Legg children were: Elizabeth, William, JAne, Martha, Robert, Sarah, Mary, Rosetta and Charles. I have Elizabeth Legg b. 1829 died 1870, nothing further. The mystery to me though is WHO were Edward and Ann?? They are the same generation as Tolpuddle Martyrs but I have Ann Bartlett so Edward must have been Loveless? In which case his children sure weren't Leggs.. Did Elizabeth Loveless marry Charles Legg?? Maybe you can enlighten Donna. They can't be Edward and Ann's children................?? not unless they changed from Loveless to Loveleggs. I do have a Charles and Elizabeth Legg and guess that she was a loveless. 3. Hello all Hey you lot don't hot things up when I can't join in. Oh Carol! Edward Loveless who married Ann Bartlett is the son of William Loveless and Jane Hoare. I would love to get into all this but just at this time I am overload. As some of you know my son (16) David has been found to have a heart problem and we have been very busy with tests, doctors and specialists. He has had two turns just this week, "helpless terror" as my good pal Geoff in Canada calls it. Hopefully within the next couple of months he will have an operation to fix this problem. So please cousins positive thoughts and a pray would not go astray. Also this week there was a shooting at Latrobe University Melbourne, this is where our eldest daughter Melissa is living and studying. The shooting was in the bar just a few metres from were they all live and her pal works in the bar. It has really unsettled them all. So a drama filled week and not much genie work done but I'm watching and will just in if you need something answered but I can't get into my books to far for a little while. Sorry to get off the Loveless research but once I started typing I couldn't stop. Oh well, sue me! 3. Hello Russell. On behalf of everyone I would like to welcome you to the Tolpuddle List. You will find that we're a quiet group but very friendly. I have Loveless and Legg ancestors in my family tree. On the Legg side I have a Elizabeth Loveless born in 1829 in Tolpuddle, Dorset, who married a George Moors Legg. they had a daughter Martha Jane Legg. This is all I have on the Legg side of the house. My Lovelesses go back to 1731 and are related to the Tolpuddle Martyrs. The last Loveless I have on record was born in 1874 in Tolpuddle, Dorset. Carol can you help? Once again, Russell - welcome to the list. I hope that you enjoy your stay. 3. Hi Mandy, I have been keeping a look out for any of this family as I thought it might be part of ours. I am looking for a Benjamin or John Benjamin Lovelace born Wells, Somerset in1793, he is the eldest brother of Charles. Written in his fathers will (also Benjamin) in 1843 was "I give and bequeath unto my son Benjamin Lovelace my Silver tankard upon condition that he do pay unto his brother Charles the sum of Three Pounds of lawful British Money immediately upon having such tankard DELIVERED to him. It points to 1. Benjamin was still alive in 1843 (he would have been 50 yrs old) 2. Benjamin was no longer in Wells, but elsewhere and could be overseas ( the wording of Lawful English Money) It is most interesting. Also your Benjamin could have been my Benjamin's son (father using the name John Benjamin, both going down our family consistently) Your Benjamin and Sarah Rebecca Hawkins had a couple more children according to the IGI Edward Hawkins Lovelace b 28 Dec 1851 St. Luke, Finsbury, London Mary Ann Lovelace bpt 16 Oct 1855 Sepulchre, London. Benjamin John Lovelace and Emma Jane Randall married 22 July 1869 Lambeth, London 2 of their children :- William Stafford b 1874 Colchester Essex, Eng Benjamin George b 877 Braintree, Essex, Eng ( you say you have more) William Edward Lovelace and Martha Emily O'Shea 2 of their children Henry Edward Lovelace b 14 Dec 1894 London Rosina Alice Lovelace b 11 May 1889 London George Abraham Lovelace m 6 Aug 1871 Sarah Elizabeth Jeary 1 child Edwin James b 12 Nov 1878 Bayswater, London In the listing of the IGI there are the marks that denote some else has traced your family, it could be worth your while to go back and research the informants of the details contained in the listing. I take it you are a daughter of Henry Edward ?? Hope this helps, but that is all I have on this family Regards Barb Lewis Aussie Cossie -----Original Message----- From: John O. 3. Hi all, I just added Barb Lewis's Australian Lovelace gedcom to the Lovelxxx web site. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lovelace/gedcoms/aussie/surnames.htm Barb and others, if in looking through your gedcoms you see things you'd like to change that the program interpreted differently than you expected, feel free to update your gedcom and resubmit. Sometimes the names are interpreted differently than you expected; for example, if you only have a surname listed, the program may interpret that as a proper name or vice-versa. Adding as many dates, places, notes, and sources as possible just makes the information that much more credible. The gedclean program I use cleans out dates for living individuals, so you don't need to worry about sending too much information. Thanks! Wendy

    3. Hello all I have had an email from a lady name Ngaire in New Zealand who is researching Channel Island Loveless's. Anybody in here researching in that area? This is all she has sent so far, Charles LOVELESS born 1822 married Sarah Ann WARD travelled out to N.Z. Arriving 2.2.1874 with five children. Another relative of this family is Jonathon LOVELESS who married a Maria PUINER (or Purner), no dates I'm sorry. I am receiving alot of emails regarding Loveless/Lovelace's now and am going to put them across the list as well as trying to help them myself. I am receiving to many and am asking for help. I always invite them to join our list or send them off to Wendy, Greg and the Americian cousins. Please watch for Ngaire and make her welcome as you always do. Also Barb has converted me to the GEDCOM PAF genealogy program (thanks Barb!) Is anyone else in here using it I could do with some advise. It is a genealogy program made by the LDS and is a free download which makes it extra great. I have been looking for a genealogy program to buy for a long time and as lots of you know I badly need one (I can see you smiling Geoff!) I think this is it. I am having a few hickups and if any kind person in here can help me it would be much appreciated. Bye for now Irene with cold fingers.

    3. Thanks Irene and Carol. You have made my day. I had had the years of birth etc from Irene earlier but the exact dates are great. I still need a date of death for Ann Loveless if anyone finds it. Irene, I made an error in my dates on my last email. I have John Loveless born 1751 not 1831. I must be getting senile in my old age. While going through the census - working on the database. I have located the following for Bridport. Jane Loveless, age 69 - widow at West Allington Allington, Dorset, England Born Bridport, Dorset FHL film 1341513 Pro ref RG11 Piece 2123 Folio 33 page 11 Also have a Robert Lovelass, age 56 married 3 Millbrook Villas Cockington, Devon born Bridport, Dorset FHL Film 1341513 Pro ref RG11 Piece 2170 Folio 164 Page 12 I'm sure there a lots more. Will list them as I go along. Hope this helps. 1. Re: [TOLPUDDLE-L] English Naming System

    3. Hi all. What I've noticed in my family research is most of the families use the same name over and over. Great grandfather named Samuel Father named Samuel One of the sons is named Samuel Other sons name one of their sons Samuel. Get the picture. Or Edward's father was Thomas Thomas's father was Edward This family also had Samuels, Georges and Sarahs all thrown in for good measure. At least every generation had one. On my father's paternal side they're all Abrahams or Jacobs. It tends to get confusing after awhile. I won't mind them using the same names if they had left behind a map or some other indicator as to who is who. Still working on the database of Loveless/Lovelace from the 1881 census. Have almost 200 names from the Dorset area Cheers all Donna King ----- Original Message ----- From: Barbara <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 08, 1999 4:57 PM Subject: [TOLPUDDLE-L] English Naming System > Hi everyone. > > I came across the following and thought it might be > of some use when researching the English Lines. > > The first son was named after the fathers Father > the 2nd son was named after the mothers Father > the third son was named after his own father > the fourth son was named after the fathers eldest brother > > The first dau was named after the mothers Mother > the 2nd dau was named after the fathers Mother > the 3rd dau was named after her own Mother > the 4th dau was named after the mothers eldest sister. > > Interesting isn't it? > Regards Barb Lewis > > May the road rise up to meet you, > And the wind ever be at your back > ack >
