I have just acquired a new book "Tennessee's Pioneer Baptist Preachers" by J.J. Burnett and it speaks of James T. Tompkins as serving in a presbytery in the constitution of the Round Lick Church at Watertown, July 2, 1803. He as also present and took part in the formation of Cumberland and Concord Associations. I have been searching websites and came across this: http://www.tngenweb.org/wilson/churches.html It does not appear to list all the early churches. I do remember reading about the formation of the Cumberland and Concord Associations. If we could find sources that identified the persons included in these organizations it would be helpful. I just checked one (email) source who wrote up one biographical sketch on my ancestor and his, and these are the churches my ancestor was associated with in Wilson County, Tennessee: "By 1811 he and his wife were attending Mt. Olivet (Mt. Juliet) Baptist Church in Wilson County, Tennessee. (Others attending this church were William M. Moore and Sarah Moore). Mt Olivet Church was founded in 1801. Elijah moved to the community called Cedar Grove, four miles north of Lebanon, Tennessee, and there he helped found the old Cedar Grove Baptist Church in 1813, and was made the first preacher there, serving until 1841. Besides this he also did other pastoral and evangelistic work. He died in 1866, during the time of the Civil War, in the home of Foster Tucker and was buried at his expense in the old Tucker graveyard." I am looking for information regarding Mt Olivet Church founded in 1801 and the old Cedar Grove Baptist church that was founded in 1813 where he was the pastor.
