Hi Logan, I think a great way to break down those walls for our unknowns could be to work on studying the migration of our ancestors. As a interested group of persons some could put together a Excel spreadsheet to show all the people who migrated from various counties in Virginia (each person taking a county of their choice). Then sharing and comparing the information with others. I mention this because I went to a genealogy meeting last nite and I would like to pass along what she mentioned. Her program Spreadsheet 101: Excel The Genealogists' Underutilized Tool. A. Tracking B. Abstracting C. Analysis 1. Discover Family Relationships 2. Chain Migration With this chain migration I think we could find out a great deal. She claims it works to break down walls. It appears there was a chain migration from Prince Edward County to Wilson Co. Tennessee. We would also be able to put together family relationships from these migrations. Then we would be able to have a more exact time of migration. And as this presenter said there was back and forth movement by many people. The presenter for this program was Jeanne Larzalere Bloom, CG who is a full time professional researcher specializing in Illinois. Her email address for questions is jl-bloom@mindspring.com Here is one resource she has in her sheet: "Excel Spreadsheet Tricks" "Resources - http://www.momemoryland.com/resources/spreadsheettricks.pdf by, Pamela K. Boyer, CG, CGL, Memory Lane, Inc. If you or anyone else wants to work on a migration study let me know which county you will be doing. That way we can compare notes at times. Remind me Logan, I think you live in Lebanon, Tennessee now, if that is right, do you know of a (older)Cedar Grove Church in the vacinity of Lebanon area still standing and any old log cabins homes. I have been told it is still standing along with my ancestors home, but I am not sure where it is. Not sure since that name has become a common name for some other churches in Tennessee.
