    1. [TNWILSON] Cherokee surnames in 1830?

    3. Query -- Is there a list of probable American Indian surnames of early Wilson Co., TN? ----- My specific situation -- Denny and William Weatherly (with their young families) were living in the household of their father, Levi, in Wilson Co., TN, in 1830. Denny Weatherly had been born in Guilford Co., NC, in 1807. His wife, Angeline, had been born somewhere in North Carolina in 1808 (census) / 1804 (tombstone). An oral tradition ascribes American Indian ancestry (Creek) to Angeline, but her surname is unknown. Given her NC roots, I'm surmising her admixture might be from among the Cherokee instead. Scrutinizing Levi Weatherly's 1830 neighbors on the census, I wonder if any of those neighbors' surnames could currently be considered to have some Cherokee blood? No circa-1828 marriage exists in the archives in Nashville for my ggg-gp's who had been living in Wilson County pre-1820 to post-1850. My Caroline Weatherly was born to them on 12 Nov. 1829. -----
