No, if you claim to be from a tribe, you imply you are a member of that tribe...and very few people are able to document their Cherokee Ancestry unless they can trace it back to one of the rolls... Hello, I have found many documents that say that for one thing, if you maintain community relationships with the tribe you can maintain on employment applications that you are part of that group. That is in fact printed on the many employment applications. What you are confusing is the ancestry that many Americans have as being of Native American descent and the right to claim to be a part of a tribe, which is usually dictated by blood quantum and if your ancestor put themselves on the rolls in the early 1900's. These are two different things. I have read many places that anyone has the right to say that they are of whatever tribe they believe they descend from ...and this is not a tribal affiliation but a ancestry. I will get back to you later, but I am working on something else at the moment. No, you must be a member of the tribe to receive preference in employment and they usually require certification by the tribe that you are indeed a member of that tribe... *maintaining community relationships* does not make one *part* of that group ... there is no such thing as a *community relationship* Indian....:) to be Indian you need to have a Cherokee Ancestor or Cherokee by Blood...no other way to do it... I don't know who's telling you all this but sounds like you've gotten taken by some fake Indians.....:( Char On Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 3:53 PM, Donna Fischer <donna_fischer2003@yahoo.com> wrote: > Hello, > > I have found many documents that say that for one > thing, if you maintain community relationships with > the tribe you can maintain on employment applications > that you are part of that group.
