But by 1799 The county lines of Wilson and surrounding counties were fairly stable. The Washington County, NC which was TN was discontinued about 1780. To complicate things further There was briefly a State of Franklin (named for Benjamin) but it never was recognized by the USA. Where are the land records? In the Courthouse which serves the county which contains the land. By the 1820's the county lines for eastern TN were quite stable. Start in the county seat where the parcel is located. That may lead you to an adjacent county (Wilson to Sumner, for example). Check the Tennessee State Library and Archives and the Wilson County Archives.
