Not that I'm aware of...in Oklahoma the Delaware are on the Cherokee Rolls, oh and I forgot the UKB Cherokees, that's United Keetawah Band of Cherokee, they're a band off the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma and are recognized, the UKB consider themselves the traditionalists of the Tribe in Oklahoma....the Delaware and UKB come under the umbrella of the Cherokee Nation and in the case of the Delaware are not Cherokee but Delaware but I don't know, that Dawes dude did a real number on all the Indians in the Indian Territory in Oklahoma...even some Seminoles can be found in Oklahoma...it was kind of the dumping ground for Indians and the US didn't really care who was or wasn't there...anyway, the Delaware are really Delaware but they're on the Cherokee Dawes Roll...go figure....:) Who is or isn't an Indian is quickly becoming a real political hot topic....there were never any Cherokee as far north as VA as I recall...so those groups in VA have some real iffy things going on...by the way, pow wows are not traditional...that was just the way Indians got together about the 1950s after years of not being allowed to gather and do any dances...the ghost dance was completely outlawed...scared the whites, who thought the Indians were conjuring up some sort of spirits when in fact they were just asking for a blessing...misunderstood culture... Anyway...you'll see a lot of info on this or that...but when it comes to Cherokee if they are not a member of the Nation in Tahlequah OK or UKB there or the NC Qualla Band of Cherokee, nine chances out of ten they are not Cherokee but have a story of a Cherokee Ancestor but can't prove it... No the Lumbee Indians are not part of the Eastern Band of Cherokee. They are in North Caolina, but are near the coast. Today they are in commerce and banking. I receive a monthly email regarding the state of Virgina called Virginia is for Lovers. And I have found the history of Virginia on these sites. They have talked about the early Cherokees and showed maps of their large early territory which did include the western side of Virginia, and as I remember went into even what we call Indiana today. Here is a link on a history of the Indian groups in what we today call Virginia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Virginia#Native_Americans Hope this link works. The Lumbee are now officially considered a separate tribe/nation. They were 'absorbed' into the Cherokee at the time of the forced removal.
