According to the History , in 1800 John Seveir issued a Captain's commission to Solomon Harpole and an ensign's commission to Martin Harpole. Experienced Indian fighters "are the two Harpoles, one of whom the Indians had named'the Fool Warrior' because of his daredevil exploits in the battle of the canebrakes on Smith's Fork in 1792."
