    3. It is true that Wilson and Smith County were created from Sumner Co in 1799. However, " By an act passed by the General Assembly November 6, 1801, a thick slice of Wlson County was detached and annexed to Smith. It included all that portion of Smith County bounded by the Cumberland River, the Caney Fork, the DeKalb County line and the Wilson County line or, practically, the western half of Smith as now constituted." (Source: History of Wilson County , G. Frank Burns et al}. This History contains some excellent source material as to where and when the boundaries of Wilson Co. were set, but, alas, no maps.
