Regarding your post about Thomas Martin, b. Va. in 1801 and moved from Wilson County, Tennessee to Butler County, Kentucky: I have just discovered a possible link of my own to a Martin Family, and it sounds likely they are the same. My interest is in Reece Watkins, who married Rachel Martin in Campbell County, Virginia in 1802. They moved to Wilson County, Tennessee in about 1818, and about 1834 or shortly thereafter appear to have moved to Butler County, Kentucky. I am trying to confirm that Reece Watkins died in Bulter County before the 1850 Census. His widow, Rachel, was living with her daughter, Elizabeth Chandler there in 1850, and died there in 1855. Rachel (Martin) Watkins was the daughter of David Watkins, Sr. of Campbell County, Virginia. I just located an abstract of David Martin's will today. It is recorded in Campbell County, Virginia Will Book 2 (1800-1810), p. 337. The will is dated 18 May 1807, and proved 12 Oct. 1807. Children listed include Josiah Martin, John Martin, David Martin, Jr., James Martin, Mary Pugh, Sally Rector, Rachel Watkins, Elizabeth Rector. He mentioned his wife, but not by name. It appears that the marriages for the above are as follows: 1. Josiah Martin. I don't see a marriage for this one, so I can't tell if he might be your Thomas' father. 2. John Martin. There are two Campbell County, Va. marriages for John Martins. First is to Sarah Pugh, daughter of David Pugh on 14 Jan. 1796, by William Flowers. Second is to Elizabeth Reynolds on 18 Apr. 1802. Your Thomas could be a son by the Martin-Pugh marriage. 3. David Martin, Jr., has two possible marriage listings as well. First David Martin, "Jr." married Jean Dickey, d/o Edward and Jean Dickey on 21 Dec. 1801 by William Flowers. There is another marriage for a David Martin to Locy Pugh, d/o Jonath Pugh on 26 Nov. 1807. So it looks like both of these marriages may be too late for your Thomas. 4. James Martin. There are three listing for James Martin marriages. 1st one is to Mary Martin, with bond issued 2 Feb. 1786. The 2nd is to Sally Williamson, with bond issued 12 Nov. 1798. The 3rd is to Ann Dickey, d/o Edward and Jean Dickey on 18 Nov. 1802 by William Flowers. 5. Mary Martin, married John Pugh in Campbell Co., Va. on 31 Dec. 1790 (although it says the bond was issued 26 Dec. 1789 - something is wrong here). 6. Sarah ("Sally") Martin, married Martin Rector in Campbell Co., Va. on 25 Dec. 1804. 7. Rachel Martin (b. ca. 1780. d. 1855 Butler Co., Ky.) married Reece Watkins in Campbell Co., Va. 11 Mar. 1802. I think these may be my ancestors. 8. Elizabeth Martin, married Lewis Rector in Campbell County, Va. on 17 Jan. 1799 There appear to be more Martins in Campbell County who are connected with the ones above, but I have not sorted them out yet. Some of them, including some of the Martins, the Watkins, and the Pughs all moved to Wilson County, Tennessee and later to Butler County, Kentucky. So I think this must be your Thomas Martin's family connection in some way. Good luck, and let me know if you find anything that makes a connection. Erick Montgomery
