Hi Michael, N stands for North Carolina District. (Not to be confused with North Carolina land grants in Tennessee.) I notice the index lists the land as in Middle District, which at that time was Davidson, Sumner and Tennessee Counties [and included the counties later formed from them.] So, the 1792 and 1793 grants to Absolom (possibly CLIFTON, see below) were in the area of the above three counties. *Tennessee Land Entries-Military Bounty Lands* lists the land as assigned by Absolem CLIFTON's heirs to James GALLAWAY in Sumner County. The actual land grants should contain more details on the specifics of the land, and may mention smaller creeks etc, helping to place the present location of the land. The land entries, warrants, and surveys for this tract may also help to identify the present location of the land. Rick Saunders http://genealogypro.com/fsaunders.html
