    1. [TNWILSON] tintypes
    2. Judy Bean
    3. Yes, Debbie, these must be tintypes. They are not in a frame or case, and they are printed on tin (as nearly as I, an amateur, can tell) I am so thrilled to have been given them by a wonderful Wilson County cousin! I will have copies made and put the originals in my safe deposit box. What type container should they be in for protection, plastic or cardboard? I can't put them in there just loose, they are other items in there (mostly papers). One is of Will J. Wood (1820-1889) who is my great-great-grandfather. He married Elizabeth Letitia Alexander Finney (ca 1826-ca 1893) and was the father of my great-grandmother Mary Elizabeth Wood (1860-1941) who married Francis Harmon Bass on 20 Nov 1879. The other is of seven Bass brothers: Thomas Jefferson Bass (1847-1915) Oren Dewitt Bass (1861-1901) Joseph Wilson Bass (1849-1921) James Henry Bass (1851-1929) William Sommerfield Bass (1842-1891) Perry Solomon "Peb" Bass (1859-1928) Francis Harmon Bass (1857-1925) my great-grandfather. The picture is not dated but since Sion Benjamin (not pictured) had a child in 1879 and William Sommerfield died in 1891, I am going to speculate it was after S.B.'s death and before W.S.'s death, so it was likely between 1879 and 1891. Any other suggestions? Any input on the families of these Bass brothers? I don't have a scanner but once I have copies made perhaps I can have someone scan it for the Wilson County site.

    1. [TNWILSON] BASS family and tintypes
    2. Judy: So, you have BASS photos! I am a BASS descendent, too. I descend from Theophilis BASS's (he died 1820's, Wilson County) daughter, Polly BASS, who married John EDWARDS. So you and I are cousins. Definitely do NOT store the images in plastic. Plastic traps moisture. Go to a good, professional camera shop and ask them about their preservation supplies. They should have some kind of acid-free cardboard envelopes you could store the tintypes in - something like the old paper photos used to come in where there was an opening in the front that framed the picture, and then you could fold over the top and shut it. If you cannot get that sort of thing where you live, you can call near where I live. That is: Clix Photographs & Savables 30 N. Williams Street Crystal Lake, IL 60014 815/455-1092 Explain that you have some tintypes to preserve. They may have some new items on the market. Good luck!
