    3. "Cunningham" is infected with the badtrans virus. I'm a listkeeper for another type of internet mailing list and one of our members got this last week. My Norton Anti virus software caught it before I was infected and deleted it. This virus mails itself to the 'from address' of everyone in the unread email on the infected computer by sending itself as an attachment in a reply to the unread message. BTW, if you have Norton and haven't run the on-line update since 4/11, your system will not detect this relatively new virus. Besides emailing itself, badtrans also installs a program that leaves the infected computer vulnerable to hackers and may interfere with the infected user's (in this case Cunningham) ability to send legitimate email. He/she does not know the email attachments are being sent. It might be wise for the list keeper to remove the address from the list until the computer has been cleaned as the attachment is being mailed to everyone who sends anything to the list. If you get the attachment, delete it without opening it and then delete it from your recycle bin. It won't hurt your computer unless you open it. Go to this web site if you want to read more about the virus. http://symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.badtrans.13312@mm.html (this is the company that markets Norton AntiVirus software) Renee

    3. Dear List members, First and foremost, DO NOT OPEN unsolicited email attachments from anybody! EVER! Even from people you know. Again, DO NOT OPEN unsolicited email attachments from anybody... not from me, not from your son or daughter, not from your best friend. DO NOT OPEN unsolicited email attachments from anybody! Second, keep your Antivirus software updated and use it! Most Antivirus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.) have weekly updates to the virus definition files. You must download and successfully install these updates to better protect your computer from new attacks. Third, DO NOT OPEN unsolicited email attachments from anybody! EVER! Finally, I apologize for my delay in replying to this, but I have been without my computer for a few days. Now back to genealogy...
