Ann, Here is an interesting entry from Thomas E. Partlow's WILSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, CHANCERY COURT RECORDS 1842-1892: Elizabeth Jones versus Thomas P. Jones of Smith County. The said Elizabeth Jones intermarried on 21 October 1843 Thomas P. Jones. They lived together until April last. At the time of the marriage, Elizabeth was a widow, having been married to a gentleman named Paint by whom she had one living daughter who is the wife of Fielding Walding (sic). By the last marriage, she has two children, to wit, a son John M., born 20 May 1845, and a daughter Amanda, born 21 March last. She has suffered cruel treatment at the hands of her husband. He has charged her with being intimate with a young man, named Charles Simpson. He has also charged her with being intimate with his brother John P. Jones. He has stated that the last child is not his. His only proof is that the does not have the same color eyes as the mother or father. She is seeking a divorce. January 1853 (Chancery Court 1850-1854, Pp. 354-364.) These records are on microfilm at the Archives in Nashville, and probably are available at the County Archives in Lebanon, Tennessee. These are not my family. Just did a lookup for you.
