William Bailey, born in Albermarle, served in the Revolutionary War, left Amherst County for Smith County about 1817/18. A daughter preceeded the family but lived with her husband Terisha Stovall in Sumner Co. Terisha was son of Bartholomew Stovall, an acquaintance of William's. William owned property which was partially in Wilson and partially in Smith. He died January 1837 at age eithty.
