    1. [TNWILSON] Wier/Weir/Ware etc.
    2. Hello, Your Joseph Wier was probably the one that appeared in Wilson County, Tennessee in the very early 19th Century with my James Wier. My research suggests that James Wier was born in South Carolina between 1770 and 1775. He married in Wilson County in 1812 to Cary J. Shaw, daughter of Gabriel Shaw and Mavel Mobley. The Shaws lived in Smith County, Tennessee, but had come from Wake County, North Carolina. My James J. Wier died in 1841 in Wilson County, leaving a will. I've never known exactly what became of Joseph, but I may have some additional information in my paper files. I have always thought that is was very probable that James and Joseph Wier were brothers, but now I am not entirely sure. I have found a possible match for my James Wier in Chester County, South Carolina as a son of William Wier. But William did not name a son Joseph in his will in the late 1780s. Perhaps James and Joseph were cousins, or perhaps William Wier was not the father. I can't prove it, but the information I have found does not contradict that possibility so far. There was a contemporary Joseph Wier (various spellings) also in Chester County in that time period as well. Tell me what you know of your Joseph, and I will be glad to check my files for additional information. Erick Montgomery
