I am curious as to what a gatekeeper might have been in 1860. My g-g-grandfather Isaac Stone was listed as a gatekeeper in the 1860 Wilson Co. Tn. census.He was in civil dist. 10, P.O. Lebanon. The next family was listed as Min. and Pres. of C.U. University. Does this University still exists and if so, at the same location? Would they have records of employees that far back? It has been suggested: 1.Gatekeeper at the University 2. Gatekeeper across land where a fee is charged 3. Gatekeeper across a body of water where a fee is charged. Isaac Stone was listed as age 74 at the time. Can anyone help me? Thank you, Ruth
