I don't believe that Wesley and Eli Hancock are of my direct line but probably are another branch of my tree. I am trying to help someone else as you are trying to help me. Thanks. "Did Eli go to Texas to get away from his huge debet?" Yes, I have always suspected so. He was quite a wheeler-dealer in Wislon, TN, frequently buying and selling land, businesses, slaves, etc. He evidently achieved some prominence in the community. He was named a Trustee of Campbell Academy in 1850. Shortly thereafter, he left the area for Texas. The financial problems did not destroy the marriage. Mary died 19 Jul 1869 and Eli died 22 Aug 1879. They are buried together in Lamar, TX. I am particularly interested in the relationship of Wesley and Eli. Wesley was 21 years older than Eli. Wesley remained in Wilson, TN and died there 8 Sep 1865. On 6 Feb 1837 Eli F. Hancock and Wesley Hancock sold 70 acres in the 19th District to John W. Booker. This would appear to be inherited land. From whom did they acquire the land? Arvil
