    3. Thomas E. Partlow's WILSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, CHANCERY COURT RECORDS 1842-1892, has two entries for Eli Hancock. Neither of these entries gives his parentage, but they contain things of interest about Mary Powell's family which you may want to add to your records. (These are not my family, just doing a lookup for you.) 1. Mary H. Hancock versus Eli F. Hancock, William T. Powell, John G. Powell, Edward L. Powell, Samuel T. Powell, Benjamin D. Powell, Henry B. Powell, German L. Powell, Samuel T. Powell, Benjamin D. Powell, Henry B. Powell, and Elizabeth C. Powell, all of Wilson County; and Nancy C. Hodges and husband Richard, and Alexander S. Powell of Mississippi. In November 1847, John Powell, father of Mary H. Hancock, died intestate. Her mother Elizabeth A. Powell, died intestate in the month of June. Eli F. Hancock, husband of the said Mary H. Hancock, is greatly in debt. His debt would swallow up what she will receive. She is asking that an injunction be granted preventing the administrators from giving her share of the estate to her husband. 13 July 1850 (Chancery Court 1850-1854, Pp. 49-52) 2. James B. Rutland versus Eli Hancock and Wesley Hancock. Attachment. July 1852 (Chancery Court 1850-1854, Pp. 338-342) 3. Bill of complaint of Eli F. Hancock against Samuel T. Powell, Richard Hodges and wife Nancy C., William T. Powell, Elizabeth Powell, John G. Powell, administrator of John and Elizabeth Powell, Edward S. Powell, Benjamin D. Powell, Henry B. Powell, German S. Powell, Alexander H. Powell, Elizabeth C. Powell, Mary H. Hancock, all of Wilson County, except Richard Hodges and wife and Alexander H. Powell of Mississippi. Said Eli F. Hancock is seeking to determine the amount of Samuel T. Powell's interest in the estate of John and Elizabeth Powell. 28 October 1848 (Chancery Book D, Pp. 523-526) (I don't understand the last one in that Elizabeth Powell apparently did not die until June 1850. Also, what has Samuel T. Powell's interest in the estate have to do with Eli? Maybe you have more information which will help you figure this out.) Anyway, I hope these are helpful to you. Did Eli go to Texas to get away from his huge debts?
