    3. I asked much the same question of the several researchers at the Wilson County Archives one afternoon a couple years ago. It was my first visit. My 4th great grandfather had lived there for several years around 1809--1816. Bought and sold land as he moved through on his way to southern Indiana. The consensus was that no one reason existed, but that Wilson County was simply a crossroads; a place to stop on your way to somewhere else. I suspect the destinations were at least as diverse. Indiana was popular for the cheap land. 40 acres for $50.00 was a HUGE attraction. I know of some who went on to Illinois, Kansas, Iowa. Myron E.
