    3. This book has an index of places, but Big Cedar Lick is not mentioned. Sorry, Kristi -----Original Message----- From: tnwilson-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnwilson-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of alan ishikawa Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2007 9:29 AM To: tnwilson@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNWILSON] Wilson Co. Baptist Ministers To Kristi Moffitt, Does your book mention the Big Cedar Lick Baptist Church in Wilson Co. TN??? I would be most interested to hear anything about that particular church. Any names of the ministers of that church in the 1820s thru 1840s? Perhaps Rev. James Tompkins???? My ggg grandfather, Lewis C. Hill, was "excluded" from this church in 1838 and again in 1844. Apparently Lewis "disobeyed", didn't attend services on a regular basis, drank liquor and allowed 2 of his slaves to drink liquor, and supported the Anti-Baptist movement. (He ended up joining the Cumberland Presbyterians, don't know if he changed his "wayward ways" or if they were more tolerant) Also, believe that he married his 1st two wives at Big Cedar Lick Baptist Church, Zuritha Rieff in 1829 and Isabell Whitson in 1834. The minister both times was James Tompkins. 1. [TNWILSON] Roll Call; Questions
    2. John Ozment
    3. Lane Ozment Sullivan Weatherly ---------- Denny Weatherly married Angeline Unknown in about 1828. Is there any way to determine Angeline's maiden name, as the marriage record is not extant? Angeline may have had NA blood per an oral tradition. She had been born in NC in 1804 or 1807. Can the early Weatherly location be determined? (Levi: sons Wm. & Denny). ---------- Alfred Ozment married Nancy Ann Lane in Nashville in 1823 (Davidson was her home county) but returned to Pond Lick where he was taxed next door to John Ozment in 1824. Is there any miscellaneous document that links Alfred with his father, John? (I have most / all of the Thomas Partlow books.) ---------- Florence Sullivan, Jr., left a stipend to Elizabeth Ozment in his ~1813 will. Is there any way to further identify Elizabeth as (1) the daughter of Florence, (2) the wife of John Ozment or (3) as John's daughter who perhaps married Jeptha Clemmons? John later granted some acreage to Jeptha in 1820. ----------

    2. Hi Denise I noticed in a reply to Robert Miles that you mentioned that you have a lot of Smith's from Wilson Co.Tn. My gggrandfather John Moore Smith was married to a Mary Elizabeth Conyer from Wilson CO.Tn. I have been trying to find the birth location of John M. Smith.According to another family member researcher I was told his father was from Scotland. The story goes that he was on his way back to Scotland with his children and died on the way over. The children were returned to their mother. If any of this sounds familiar or you have any record of this John Smith please e-mail me,I have a lot of information on John's children. 2. Myron E. Williams
    3. Michael: I suggest you will want to pursue Thomas Sanderson's service record and the possibility that his widow or mother filed a pension claim. Check the site for NARA for details. http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/ You may also check with the Wilson County Archives. If you know his burial site that may lead you to a booklet listing veterans buried in (County). Many of these are listed in the LDS library index at www.familysearch.org. If you are not familiar with the Latter Day Saints and their Family History Centers, you simply MUST become so. If you can determine Mr. Sanderson's unit, the LDS may have a regimental history. You are well started. Happy hunting. Myron E. Williams Crossville, TN Michael Chambers wrote: > Hi All; > > I've just subscribed to this list. 1. [TNWILSON] Looking for info on SANDERSON and CHAMBERS lines.
    2. Michael Chambers
    3. Hi All; I've just subscribed to this list. I think I may have had at least one breakthrough today, and I'm hoping that perhaps another Wilson County, Tenn. researcher can confirm my line of thinking, and maybe even help me take it even further. My gggrandfather was Thomas SANDERSON of Gallatin, Co., Ill. He was killed by a sniper in 1863 while on his way to the battle of Vicksburg. Up till now, that was all that I knew about him. I brother however, recently found the record of his enlistment (15 Aug 1862) in the Illinois State Archives. He had listed his age as 28, and Wilson County, Tenn. as his place of birth. Now then, I've found a 6 Dec. 1998 posting from a "Bob" (brobpat@aol.com) in your archives that was titled "SANDERSON FAMILY of WILSON COUNTY". In it, he lists a Thomas SANDERSON (age 16) from the 1850 census. He is listed as the son of Daniel SANDERSON (age 52, born in Virginia), who was the son of William SANDERSON. I'm thinking that your Thomas S., who was 16 years old in 1850, is also my Thomas S. who joined the Union Army in 1862, at the age of 28, and who came from Wilson Co., Tenn. Can anyone confirm any of this, and furnish any additional information about this family? I would sure appreciate it. Michael Chambers St. Louis County, Mo.
