It also said: jacob jennings (m. beatrice B.) and Jacob had children: Elizabeth, 1787, polly, 1789, william 1791, joel 1792, john a. 1795, nancy 1797; robert 1799, sallie 1801, uriah 1804. So yes, it looks like the book says they are siblings. I have no additional info on Thomas Alexander other than the marriage as stated in "marriages of wilson county tn 1802-1850" by edythe rucker whitley; It says they were married by james foster, j.p., william s. alexander, bondsman. 3. The Wilson Co. TN Index to Wills shows that 2 Cliftons had Wills prior to 1823. They were: Joshua H. Clifton in 1820 and Jesse Clifton in 1823, (but a Jesse Clifton, who may or may not be the one who died in 1823, is shown as marrying Sally Smith January 4, 1819). I HAVE THIS JESSE CLIFTON d. 1822, (married to Sally Smith) his son is Ben D. Clifton married Sarah Calas 1844. This line went to Stone-Christian Co., Mo.

TN, 1802-1850", by Edythe Rucker Whitley. This book is pretty much considered the "bible" on Wilson Co. marriages for those years. The Index of this book lists the name Benjamin Clifton 5 times: 1. Benjamin Clifton married Hannah Clifton June 20, 1823 with Lawrence Sypert as bondsman. 2. Benjamin Clifton was married to Nancy Johnson December 22, 1836 by Rev. B. S. Mabry. 3. Benjamin D. Clifton married Louisa H. Forbes Oct 3, 1842. 4. Benjamin Clifton was married to Harriet B. Grant January 17, 1844, by Rev. John Seay. 5. Benjamin D. Clifton was married to Sarah Ann Calas Dec 11, 1844 by Rev Jos. Camper. Of course this is not all the same man named Benjamin Clifton. As noted in other messages in this thread, one of the Benjamin Cliftons died in 1830 and left a Will in Wilson Co. TN records. The date of the Benjamin and Harriet Grant you asked about is the same as you have. Is it possible that your Benjamin was married prior to Harriett and that Thomas was a son of that earlier marriage?????? Perhaps the Benjamin who was married to Nancy Johnson in 1836? NOTE - re the Benjamin Clifton who married Hannah Clifton in 1823 Some of the responses in this thread state that Hannah's maiden name is unknown, BUT the record shows that she was a Clifton before her marriage to Benjamin. Her maiden name may have been Clifton, OR she may have been the widow of another Clifton. Good luck sorting this all out. I have Benjamin Clifton, born pre 1775 in Southampton Co VA, m. Hannah; their son Benjamin Frank, born 1825 in Wilson Co TN married Harriet B. Grant; their other children were Thomas, b 1846 in TN; Nancy, b 1845 in TN; Jubil, b 1850 in Tn (age 5/12 in 1850 census). As I have no details in these Family Group Sheets I feel sure my entries for these latter three birth years was from the 1850 census. (I had that source for Jubil's age). I would suggest that whomever gave the information/details to the mortitian at the time of his death might be a "key". If the person who gave the information was a "close" relative it's probably correct; otherwise, maybe just a guess. And perhaps that person was the one who had the tombstone engraved... Sorry... Grant 17 Jan 1844 Wilson Co, TN. We have a problem with the birth date of their first son, Thomas F. Clifton who was born somewhere between 1846-1850. Census, death, cemetery records all show different ages for Thomas. He's 4 in 1850 census in Wilson Co but by the time he marries the 1st time, he shows himself born about 1850. His death certificate has his birth as 1842 and his gravestone, though hard to read, has been transcribed as him being born in 1842. We are hoping the marriage date of his parents might help determine his real age. Sandy (Whalen) Bauer Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Direct your inquiry to the Wilson County Archives: http://www.wilsoncountytn.com/archives.htm So ask about a will or administration. You would prefer that there was no will, because then the administration of the estate must enumerate ALL the heirs. A will need not. Good luck. Myron E. 1. [TNWILSON] Will for John Carter, Wilson Co. 1834-1840ish?
    2. Julie
    3. Okay, it's finally dawning on me that those descendants of Frederick Carter on this list who have contacted me have sent me very similar lists of children for Frederick, and they have each said that they've never heard of him having a son named Solomon. (I have had way too much work and e-mail this month, and I hadn't read everything closely enough.) That being the case, I'm searching for a new father for Solomon again. I hope I was not too rude before; I just had it set in my mind that the list I had found at familysearch.org had some validity. At the moment I'm interested in checking out a John Carter who was 50-60 for the 1830 Wilson Co. census, had 1 son 15-20 and 7 younger kids. Solomon would have been about 17 in 1830. As far as I can tell, this particular John does not seem to have been living in Wilson Co. in 1840, so I'm wondering if he died at some point after he (or some John Carter) served as the bondsman at Solomon's wedding in 1834. How could I go about finding out if there was a will filed for a John Carter in Wilson Co. between 1834 and 1840ish? (For the 1840 census, Solomon was living near an Alexander Carter in Rutherford Co., and after that he moved to Kentucky.)
