The quality of the document is not the best but it is legible to a degree. The John referenced in the will became a preacher as far as I am aware and did move after his father died. We are still trying to find the birth records of Elizabeth and Annie(Anne) mentioned in the will, but we do know that Elizabeth was my GGGrandmother. If you email me direct I will send the Will to you. Regards Rick rick.cowey@iinet.net.au Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Many early Wilson Co. TN residents have a connection to Guilford Co. NC because they were Soldiers of the Revolution who fought at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. There were 4.500 Americans (both Militia and Continental Line) who fought in this battle under General Nathaniel Greene. They were defeated by the 1,900 British soldiers led by Lord Charles Cornwallis, but the Americans killed 25% of the British soldiers in this battle and caused Lord Cornwallis to retreat from the Carolinas to VA where he surrendered six months later. He make the following quote about this battle: "I never saw such fighting since God made me. The Americans fought like demons" Lt. General Charles, Earl Cornwallis Among these Soldiers of the Revolution who fought in this battle were my Wilson Co. ancestors: 1. William Eddins, Sr. (wife Rebecca Chandler) who fought with the North Carolina Continental Line, and whose daughter Elizabeth married James Ozment July 14, 1817 in Wilson Co. (I descend from his son William Eddins, Jr. and Sarah Hooker) 2. John Porter McFarland, who married Nancy Manees/Menees (I descend from their son James Menees McFarland and Dicey Bilbro) -------------------- To request a lookup to find out if YOUR ancestor fought in the Battle of Guilford Co. Courthouse, contact: Guilford Courthouse National Military Park 2332 New Garden Road Greensboro, NC 27410-2355 or go to www.nps.gov/guco/ click on "email us" to get an email form to fill out and send. You can read about this battle at www.nps.gov/guco/index.htm -------------------------- Personally, I would be very interested to see a list of Wilson Co. citizens who fought in this battle. Perhaps those of you who learn your ancestor was in this battle, could post that info on the message board. Kathleen Hill Redondo Beach, CA Wilson Co. I've found the name spelled "AUSMENT" "Osmet" "Osment", and a whole variarity that I can no longer recall. In looking up old marriage records, one list member has been trying to find her "Ellen OZMENT" who married William W.Carpenter on 19th April 1847 in Wilson Co.,TN. Also from that same family, William Carpenters sister, MARTHA CARPENTER was recorded as marrying RADFORD B. OZMENT on April 15, 1846. I believe these siblings of Carpenters married siblings, Ellen & Radford. Thru the years we hear from these Carpenter descendants, looking for information on their "Ozment" ancestors, which to date I've never been able to connect to even after 20 years of Ozment research. Today, I think I found out why. William W. Carpenter, though not of my Ozment family, might well have been a very distant relation in that his mother was Nancy Stone daughter of Elijah Stone of Virginia. The Stones married into the Farris family of Pittsylvania and Halifax Co... just a side note for my relatives back in Wilson Co (smile!) William W. Carpenter who was the son of Samuel Carpenter & first wife Jean Hundley of Amelia Co Va married 1st to Rebecca Bland & they in turn moved to Wilson Co.,Tn sometime after 1820... she died after 1840 and he married 2nd to the very young ELLEN who is recorded as an Ozment but I believe was not, and then he moved her into Jefferson County, Illinois where he divorced her in August of 1850. His sister and her husband, who was recorded as RADFORD B. OZMENT also moved into Illinois.... and it has many times been written on the internet that Radford B. Ozment "fell off the earth" since he was never heard from again or found in census, but he was listed in the Civil War Records of Illinois in Regiment A 110 Illinois Infantry at Hunt County on Roll 99 in Soundex 0216 as PVT RADFORD B. OSBURN. Next I find that like my Ozment family.... the OSBURN family got a lot of spellings thru their track from Virginia to TN to Parker Co Tx and yes, into Illinois...OZBUN; OZBAN; OZBURN; OSBAN: OSBORNE; OSBORN: even, OZMEN when they came into the company of Ozments. I found a lot of this info at www.osborngenealogy.com <http://www.osborngenealogy.com/> http://www.osborngenealogy.com/ Hope it helps clear some things up Nadine ------------------------------ To contact the TNWILSON list administrator, send an email to TNWILSON-admin@rootsweb.com.
