I was looking at the Rootsweb surname list for my Melvin family line in Wilson Co. There is a posting for William H. Davis, Cherrywood Drive, Nashville who is also researching Melvins in Wilson Co. I tried the e-mail address listed and got a bounce back. I wrote to the address listed and have not gotten a response. Does anyone know Mr. Davis? He is the first person I have found who is researching Melvins in Wilson Co. and I would really like to contact him. Thank you, Ann

Back when Greg was having trouble with his server I sent a request to the board and haven't seen it posted. I am therefore re-posting it hoping Martie or Jean can help me. Subject: Bilbro, McFarland Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2001 10:01:50 -0600 From: "Florence L. Parman" <fparman@home.com> To: tnwilson-d@rootsweb.com Jean and/or Martie: I picked up Jean's note to Martie today, regarding Dr. John McFarland. I apparently missed Martie's original post concerning information on the McFarlands of Wilson Co. My mother was a Bilbro. Her father was William C. Bilbro, Jr.MD from Rutherford Co. and we originate in Rutherford Co. from Berryman Bilbro, son of William Bilbro of Wilson County. Hence, I am a descendant of John Porter McFarland and Nancy Menees of Wilson Co. All this is to say I am very interested in what the information concerning the McFarlands might be. They certainly a fascinating family and while I have a good bit of information, I am always on the look-out for additional info. I have been in touch with you Jean, but Marie is a new name to me. As usual, I'm snooping for "new stuff", still trying to put some "meat on the bones" of my ancestors. Hope to hear from both of you. I have recently found where John Porter entered America in New York on board the ship the Commerce. I haven't been able to find out anything about the Commerce but I still looking. If you contact me, I have more details about when and where he boarded. Florence Parman
Does anyone on this list have info on William YOUNG b. abt 1804 in NC. He probably migrated from Franklin Co., NC. to Wilson Co., TN and is listed there in the 1830 census. Married Martha LUNSFORD, dau of Eaton LUNSFORD, July 20 1827 in Wilson County. They, along with several other NC families, moved on to Madison Co., TN (later became Crockett County) and were listed in the 1840 census where they remained. Children: Mary Jane, James H. "Jim", William Turner Clinton "W.T.C", Sarah A. Elizabeth, Fountain E. Pitts, Martha L., Rebecca E., Julia F., Cyrus Leander "Lee", and Lafayette. Any clue will be appreciated. Does anyone know if this funeral home exists today? If not, has the name been changed? Are the records from 1944-1948 kept somewhere? Thank you, Alberta Barry cabarry@concentric.net
Posted on: Wilson Co. Tn Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Wilson/727 Surname: Shepherd, Shepard, Taylor ------------------------- I think it unlikely Thomas C. Shepherd of Wilson and Carroll counties TN was the son-in-law of William Bailey. TCS was in Wilson Co. by 1823, buying land on Cedar Creek, and was enumerated in the census of 1830 on Wilson Co. p. 146. In this same census there is a Thomas Sheppard in Smith Co. enumerated consecutively with William Bailey's son Jonathan on p. 119. William and other Baileys are found on Smith Co. p. 125. While evidence suggests Thomas C. Shepherd's wife was named Susannah, there is another Thomas Shepherd marrying a woman named Susannah in VA in the period William Bailey's daughter Susannah married a Thomas Shepherd in Campbell Co. This other marriage occurred in Montgomery Co. VA in 1801 between Thomas Shepherd and Susannah Ritter. While it's unlikely Thomas C. Shepherd was William Bailey's son-in-law, it is possible he was the husband of Susannah Ritter.

Looking for info on the family of Abijah RICE< b. @ 1794 in Cocke Co., TN. Served in the War of 1812, enlisted in KY and served in the 24th US Inf as in Capt. Wadsworth's First Rifles. Believed that he was living in the Sumner Co. area at the time of enlistment and that he might have had a brother named Jehu RICE. Married to Jaley Ann BROWN, b. 1802 at a station camp on the Little Duck River in what is now Coffee Co., TN. According to Guion Miller applications, Jaley was the daughter of Leonard BROWN (probably James Leonard BROWN) and an Indian woman named WATHACAPEE, and Jaley was at least 1/4 Cherokee. It is believed as well that Abijah was of Native American ancestry. They were possibly married on June 19, 1817 in Wilson Co., TN, as there is a wedding license for an Elijah/Ebijah RICE and a Jaley Ann BROWN for that date, with a Stephen BROWN serving as bondsman. A Stephen BROWN married Polly CRANFORD (or CRAWFORD) in Wilson Co., TN, in 1815. He later went to Lawrence Co., TN; Lauderdale Co., AL; Wayne Co., TN; and on to Searcy and Izard Cos. in Arkansas. Posted on: Wilson Co. Tn Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Wilson/716 Surname: Shepherd, Shepard, Taylor ------------------------- Thomas C. Shepherd (b. ca. 1778) lived in Wilson Co. at least from the early 1820s until after 1840, moving later to Carroll Co. TN, where he died in the early 1850s. His daughter Cary Ann married John N. Taylor in Wilson Co. in 1826 and lived in the county the rest of her life. Thomas Shepherd may be related to the Shepards from Prince Edward Co. VA, but this is uncertain. Would like to hear from others interested in Thomas Shepherd.
