They were both born in Nash County, NC,in the 1770s and migrated to Wilson County, TN, after 1800. Lancelot's descendants can be found in Missouri, Texas, and Kentucky. 1. [TNWILSON] Hunter's Point
    2. My grandparents, Jeremiah (Jere Dock) and Henrietta Burns Whitman, were married in Wilson County in 1888, and lived there until the mid-late 1890s. They lived at least a portion of that time in the community known as Hunter's Point. I am trying to find out where my grandfather is buried. Would someone who is familiar with Hunter's Point tell me the names and locations of any known cemeteries in that area. Thanks in advance. Betty

    1. [TNWILSON] Graves men
    2. susan lane
    3. There were two men named Graves listed as early settlers of Wilson County. Has anyone done any research on them? One of my Graves women Jane Graves married William Paul and they came to Wilson County early 1830's from Culpeper, VA. I am curious if the two Graves men who were already there could have been related (uncles maybe to my Jane). All Jane's siblings are accounted for, but I am trying to find her grandfather from VA. Also, has a cemetery inventory been done for Wilson County and if so can one be purchased? Thanks for any help. Susan Lane

    1. [TNWILSON] Re : Maps? O Yes There Are
    2. This was sent to me by a list member and I believe They have all sorts and dates of Maps for Wilson County. Give then a call. Good luck, Florence I just called the Wilson County Planning office, and they can mail copies of the 1907 map. Their number is 615-449-2836. The woman who normally handles the maps was out of the office, but they said they could just mail a copy with a bill, which they thought was $1.

    3. There is a book "Map Guide to the U. S. Federal Censuses" by William Thorndale and William Dollarhide. It gives the development of counties by the use of maps. Copies of the individual states from this book can be purchased from: American Genealogical Linding Library, P. O. Box 244, Bountiful, Ut, 84010. Genealogical libraries should have copies of this book. I have found that most often it is not on the shelves but, held back for the asking. So ask the librarian if they have the book. It is copied so often, it wears quickly. 2. Peggie Toplovich
    3. It is true that Wilson and Smith County were created from Sumner Co in 1799. However, " By an act passed by the General Assembly November 6, 1801, a thick slice of Wlson County was detached and annexed to Smith. It included all that portion of Smith County bounded by the Cumberland River, the Caney Fork, the DeKalb County line and the Wilson County line or, practically, the western half of Smith as now constituted." (Source: History of Wilson County , G. Frank Burns et al}. This History contains some excellent source material as to where and when the boundaries of Wilson Co. were set, but, alas, no maps.

As I recall, the boundary moved westward, making a large territory that was originally in Smith County then come under the jurisdiction of Wilson County. Erick Montgomery

    1. [TNWILSON] Amey Gilliam Harris
    2. Hi all: Can anyone help Buck with his question? The only place I have Amey Gilliam Harris is on a copy I have of the VAHARRIS, Gedcom. There are no parents listed. His letter fellows: Thanks, Carolyn Subj: Amey Gilliam Harris Date: 2/7/01 11:10:39 AM Pacific Standard Time From: Buck/n/Ida@mvtel.net (Buck Buchanan) To: cwhitm36@aol.com Carolyn, My ggggrandmother was Amey Gilliam Harris, b. 2/19/1793 in Montgomery Co NC, m. Isham Hearne in Montgomery Co NC 6/18/1811, d. 1869 in Montezuma TN., and is buried in the Hearne Chapel Cemetery in Chester Co TN. This much I have good documentation on. Until recently she was a brick wall, until I rec'd a response from a query posted on the Hearne family forum which stated she was the daughter of James Harris and Priscilla Gilliam. James was s/o Isham & Martha Green, Isham was son of Weston "West" Harris & Mary Turner, d/o Joseph Turner & Birchet Lundy. In your posting on the genforum for the Harris family I did not find Amey listed as one of the children of James. Do you have any information which would clear up the confusion in my mind? Any information you have on her lineage would be appreciated. Thanks Buck Buchanan --------------------

Ed, I know exactly what you would like to see. It would be a very helpful tool indeed. I haven't seen anything like this put together for Tennessee so far; however, it can be done. You might find these web sites interesting: 1. Evolution of United States County Boundaries url: http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.html It has a link to an animated gif file that shows very well what can be done using the 'AniMap' software available from GoldBug - I have no affiliation/experience with this software. The link for the gif is url: http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.gif 2. Info. regarding the 'AniMap' software is at url: http://www.goldbug.com/AniMap.html 3. The Illinois GenWeb site has the following link: Illinois County Boundaries 1790 - Present url: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcumber/ilctybnd/ This, i presume, is exactly what you would like to see for Tennessee. Sorry that these items may be more interesting than immediately useful. Perhaps someone with the right skills could take on this project. For what it's worth, I found out that the Houston Public Library Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research has the AniMap CD-ROM in its collection. I've never gone there to try it out. You might find it available in a major library in your area. Good luck in your quest, Bill Troutt Katy, TX - researching TROUT (families of Joseph and Adam) in Wilson Co.

    1. [TNWILSON] Martin Info that you posted
    2. Cheryl Swarthout
    3. Dear Richard: Thanks for posting the Martin/Holman info. I have not found any Holman connections in my Wilson Co. Martin line yet, but that possibility exists. My oldest known Martin was James, born c. 1803 in North Caroline. He married Mary Eason in 1825 and they had son Joseph B., born Dec. 18, 1825. Mary died, perhaps in childbirth, and James Martin married Harriet Hegerty Nov. 10, 1830. They had children: Lafayette, Mary (married a Lockett?), Lucy E. (married a Robinson?), James, John, Harriet G. , and Adaline (married a Whitescarver?) . I think that there is a good possibility that my James Martin, b. 1803, had a brother, Robert B., who married Cyntha Hegerty in 1835. (Sister of Harriet?) Unfortunately, I don't have any information about the children from my James' second marriage to Harriet. I am descended from the only son of his first marriage, Joseph Burton. It is possible that the James Martin you refer to who died in 1879 could be the son of James Martin and Harriet Hegerty. The area that you think the property was in, N. Wilson County, is the area that my Martins were in. Several of them lived near Martha, TN. Could you share with me any other details you might have about your Martins? Maybe we can still make a connection. Thanks, Cheryl
